I liked the fact that everything I needed was on either of the main streets (both the shops street and the by-pass road). People are pleasant and helpful, and Ashburton doesn't feel too big or touristy. A great place to stay if you want to use as a base to explore other activities in the area.

We stopped here to see the Aviation Heritage Museum.
We stopped here to see the Aviation Heritage Museum. It was a great place to stop and rest prior to travelling into Christchurch. We found it a very friendly, slower paced area that allowed us to rest before the city exposure.

The ability to use a service road to get around the city...
The ability to use a service road to get around the city centre - didn't have to use the busy State Highway 1. A lot of places were shut for New Years but we found a decent Indian restaurant and really enjoyed that . Great weather . Downside was the attitude and behaviour of the staff at the motel . Good blackout curtains. Facilities were as they should be. Plenty of channels on the tv and the tv being placed well in the room. Excellent water pressure and temperature with the shower. The owners are friendly and relaxed. Double glazed windows etc etc etc. Will definitely be staying here again next time we visit Ashburton.
