We were on a flying visit, but I know the village as I grew up nearby. Unless the weather is appalling, it us a great place to go. Lovely quaint village with lots of walks, caves, boat trips & eateries. Ideal for families and couples & those with wee dogs.

There were many interesting sets from The Quiet Man movie, as a well as a Quiet Man museum with costumes and props from the movie. There were coffee shops, restaurants and pubs, and a variety of clothing and souvenir shops. Getting around Cong was very easy. Parking in town was a little difficult, but there are two car parks, one just as you enter town and one near the church.

If at all possible --- go to Ireland's School of Falconry!!
If at all possible --- go to Ireland's School of Falconry!! Yvonne and Tommy were excellent! It was an experience of a lifetime. The grounds of Ashford Castle are gorgeous!! And it was a great surprise to see the lodge used for Danagher's house as we were walking through the gardens to the School of Falconry. The Monk's fishing cabin is cool.
Of course, The Quiet Man sites were fun. Aran Knitwear is a lovely store. I wish they'd have a few Clancy Brothers-type cables, but the modern, sleeker ones are pretty.
Pat Cohan's was delicious for dinner and had a luxury menu at good prices. Nice specialty cocktails, too.
We ate at Danagher's pub for lunch and the beef stew was huge and tasty (if a little salty). It reminded me of my uncle's rec room in the 60s.
The Irish History bookstore (Rare & Recent Books) was worth visiting. Extensive collection, modern titles, great old books, books in Irish, children's books, too. The prices were good.
Everyone we met in Cong was friendly and had good info!

We loved Cong.
We loved Cong. It was a beautiful town and area, with a gorgeous ruined abbey, forest walks, caves, an impressive manor house, quaint stores... The food was excellent at the Crow's Nest, and we LOVED the live music by Stephen and Trish. The salmon at Lydon's Lodge was incredible. The porridge at the Puddleducks Cafe, delicious. We HIGHLY recommend the Irish History Bookshop on Main Street. The owner, Robert, a historian himself, was able to provide us with so much information about the area's archaeological history that interested us. From Cong we explored the Nymphsfield Standing Stones (hard to find, but super-cool), the Ballymacgibbon Cairn, Moyne Castle, and Annaghkeen Castle. Cong is also the perfect base for day-trips to the Connemara Penninsula, and to the Aran Islands.
One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in! We can’t wait to return! The staff were so attentive and genuinely lovely. They really made our stay special! Bedrooms were spacious and had a very luxury feel with modern interiors. The bed was huge and so comfortable. The Lodge was so homely and cosy and the grounds were absolutely stunning, with beautiful views over the lake. The breakfast was unlike anywhere else, almost 3 courses with a huge selection and so delicious!
I can’t recommend this place enough!
Every thing was absolutely exceptional! It was the best place of our whole trip. Unfortunately it was our accommodations for our first night in Ireland so it really spoiled us. Our host were absolutely lovely people. The whole place was gorgeous and a wonderful sensory experience! The sights, the sounds (lovely sound of birds in the morning), the feel of the comfy bed, the smell of the sheets, the taste of the exceptional breakfast...everything perfect!
Stayed here for my second year in a row with some friends and just like last year everything exceeded our expectations. Rachel looked after us as always and put on an incredible home baked breakfast with everything you could imagine. The location is idyllic overlooking the river and only a few hundred metres into the quaint village of Cong, which has a great selection of local gastro pubs. Will be back again next year!
Cong is a beautiful village with all its Quiet Man history but there's a lot more to it and Lydons Lodge was the perfect base, the room was plenty big for us (family of 4) and very comfortable. The staff are so friendly and welcoming it's like meeting up with old friends. Great breakfast and we also had dinner there which was fabulous. We cannot recommend Lydons Lodge enough, We will definitely be going back.
Our stay at Nymphsfield House was outstanding! The rooms were spacious and spotless. Mary was a lovely host. There were five of us and she catered to our every need at breakfast and even made delicious home baked scones and Irish brown bread. We felt very welcome here and wished we could have stayed longer! By far the best B&B experience during our time in Ireland, thank you!
Fantastic Hotel, right in the heart of downtown so everything was within walking distance. Room was small and quaint but very comfortable. Lots of pillows and all the amenities we have come to expect. Food and service was impeccable! We had dinner and breakfast in the morning and they were both fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area.
The location: near Cong and adjacent to Ashford Castle. Also loved meeting our hosts, Patricia and Gerard, who welcomed us and left us all the fixings for an Irish breakfast. Thirdly, our villa looked brand new: was spotlessly clean and decorated beautifully and comfortably. We also loved walking into Cong and through the grounds of the Ashford Castle.
The room was really nice and comfortable! Although the rooms are small the furniture is nice and it makes you fell really cozy. The area around is relly nice too, there is lots to discover in cong, one highlight is the Ashford Castle, its only 5 min walk and we had breakfast there.
Superb location and staff and facilities. As we would expect for a 4 star plus hotel. The views and grounds and walks including Ashford Castle were exceptional. The falconry experience particularly with our grand daughter was so memorable and photographic.
The location is excellent right in centre close to Ashford castle. Was in front room of hotel very comfortable and clean. Staff are very nice and helpful.breakfast good choice offered lunch menu very good. No late music to keep you awake at night.
Everything was great, the apartment was sparkling clean. Thank you Patricia and Gerard for making our stay so comfortable. We enjoyed the Ashford castle and the surroundings, this is by far one of the best places we've been to in Ireland.
Good location and few minutes from Cong. It was comfortable, private and the hosts were very nice. Had a good size TV, most other places have very small TVs, I like big TVs so I can see what I'm watching.
Well kept establishment close to Cong village. Spacious clean comfortable room with TV and tea making facility. Comfortable bed.Visitors lounge available. Lovely cooked breakfast by congenial hosts.
Location is ideal, overlooking the river and a stone's throw from Cong Abbey. Friendly service and Martha accommodated our every need. Excellent breakfast.
Excellent breakfast served promptly. A most relaxed hotel in one of the prettiest villages in Ireland. Gorgeous bedrooms. Simple decor but very effective.
