It is a bit crowded due to tourism but if the crowds are too much, simply take a day trip to the mountains and nature around! Nice place to visit if interested in taking a short or long walks. They have so many shrines and Temples. Kyoto have good shopping malls and restaurants that cater for all budgets. Lovely place to visit. Highly recommended.

The top attractions are worth doing but super super busy and crowded . There are no ‘ best times’ so it’s worth managing those expectations. Kyoto station itself by night ( upstairs) is vibrant with light shows . It’s more of an art and design centre than a station !pauline - 10Scored 10

Kyoto is popular for good reasons - it has lots to offer...
Kyoto is popular for good reasons - it has lots to offer with numerous shrines, temples, interesting old areas with wonderful architecture and a taste of the old Japan. We did some very enjoyable walking by the river as well as the delightful Philosopher's Path. It also has good connections to other places such as Nara so there is plenty to fill your days. Be aware though that it does get very busy.

We truly recommend taking the half-board option as every meal (breakfast or dinner) was as amazing as it was delicious. The true Ryokan experience also with our futons which were laid down by the staff while we were eating dinner in the hotel restaurant and these futons were put away while we were having breakfast. Really amazing Ryokan, notwithstanding the short distance from Kyoto Station, Higashi-Honganji temple and its garden.

It's also easy walking distance the main shopping areas and the Gion area. The hotel is also very attractive overall, but especially the front, lobby, and sentou areas. The rooms seems to choose looks over function in a number of places where I would prefer better function, but the rooms did look good (overall).

Room was very well designed except for one drawback (see below). Elevators were available and fast. Check in and out was easy. Coffee room was an unexpected bonus. Housekeeping staff were super alert and efficient.
