The location is perfect (so close to Nishiki, Pontocho, the River and Gion!!), the traditional Japanese decoration which made our stay more authentic, the comfort of the room (we liked having a small living room in the room), the living room area in the lobby, the functioning WiFi, the luggage delivery service at the front desk

The old erea around Gion is beautiful. The food market is very crowded and narrow but the food is delisoius.
In the evening is the area of Gion very good to find a nice restaurant. Do not come too late, because otherwise the restaurants are full. With the Temple in youre back, you have to cross the river to find an affordable restaurant. The closer the Temple, the more expensive the restaurants.

Kyoto was amazing - we were there 6 nights and that was a day or two too few.
You should explore Kyoto Station which is both architecturally amazing, has a light show on the stairs at night, and has a ton of amazing restaurants. We took a day trip to Arashiyama to see the Bamboo Grove, then took the "Romantic Train" up to Kameoko and the boat down the Hozu river back. That boat trip was great. Ninenzaka was a great location to walk around with amazing shops and restaurants. Fushima Inari Taisha is great but be prepared for many, many stairs - worth it if you're up for the hike.
The trains are easy and cabs are too if you get on one of their apps (we used Go).

It was super crowded and expensive.
It was super crowded and expensive. Kyoto is a very narrow city and I think it was an overrated place because it has a lot of cultural and historical things. However, the city just focuses on tourism and it seems you need to spend an unnecessary budget for everything such as food and hotels.

So much to see, do and eat!!!
Go there. Just realise lots of other people go there too. Be patient or plan ahead to arrive earlier or late to popular sites.
If you are in a crowd, walk a bit further and you will find the crowd thins.

Kyoto is a beautiful and quaint town. Plenty to see & do.
Kyoto is a beautiful and quaint town. Plenty to see & do. We stayed for 5 nights plus 1 night and did not cover it all. Leaving with a heavy heart, with a resolve to go back again.
The General Hotel Kyoto is very well located for interesting izakayas, bars, ramin places & nicer restaurants. It's close to the main street for higher-end shopping too.
Beautiful stylish reception and rooms. Just enough space for 2 suitcases ( can’t be said for all Japanese hotels)
Location was so convenient next to the station but there was no noise at night as it’s on a side street.
Most importantly ,my friend had a fall whilst in Kyoto which meant that we needed help with onward travel, etc, and the staff were all absolutely amazing. Better than 5* service. Can’t speak highly enough of them, and I’ve done a lot of travelling around the world in my life. These people are the best!
The standard room we booked is so spacious , the bed is most comfortable we had the best sleep, the bathroom layout is perfect we used the big bath every night . We included breakfast in our stay and The traditional Japanese breakfast set was a top quality feast - exquisite and a must try. Hotel Location is perfect right by the Kyoto Station if you are coming by JR Shinkansen and lots of eating amd shopping options just right at door step. Must go to the Yogodashi 5-storey Shopping Centre right across the road .
I booked a single room with shared bathroom. The room was very small but it was no surprise for Japan :) The restroom was very clean, the staff friendly, the breakfast was offered in a café nearby, just 30 steps from the hotel. It might not be the best one in town, but sufficient to start the day with energy :) The hotel is quiet and yet in a good position, not so far from Gion, has shopping facilities not far away and is at walking distance from the station (more or less 20 minutes or a subway stop)
The great staff, we had a small problem with our original room, the staff quickly switched us to a different room. We really appreciated that. The location is awesome. 5 minute walk to the Gion-Shijo station or the bus stop. 5 minute walk across the street to one of the most beautiful streets in the Gion district. About 15 minute walk to Nishiki market.
The public bath was very clean and it was a good place to unwind.
Get breakfast too. This was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Japan.
We didn’t get the breakfast as it seemed a little pricey— but it looked great! It’s super close to AEON mall, which is a good distraction. It’s about a 10min walk from the station, which we didn’t mind as the roads are very flat. The room was great, very comfortable, spacious enough for three adults and there was a huge pubic bath too. If you want to stay in a cultural area, this may not be the best option, but if you want to go around many places, I’d recommend this hotel.
Very good surprise with the séquence Hotel.
It is a moderne boutique-hotel, with quite spacious rooms, very clean and new onsen and sauna (not too crowded) and great location close to the station and in walking distance from multiple temples. 15-30 min wal from Gion area.
The personnel was very helpful and the restaurant (we only had diner once) serving wagyu burgers good quality.
Actually it was the best 4star value for money hotel for our trip in Japan.
Beautiful location right along the river walk, and also close by to two major train stations (if you’re doing a lot of self guided sightseeing this is a big asset). Straight down on the same street you’re right by Pontocho which has some of the best food in the area and just across the river from the historic Gion district which flanks Kiyomizu Temple. Also walking distance to Tenmachi and a bunch of really great souvenir stops.
The single room is spacious enough and the deep bath is a nice luxury. Proximity to covered market streets filled with shops and restaurants is probably the best feature of the hotel. Front desk staff were super helpful recommending places to eat. And though a chain hotel, the breakfast buffet had a home cooked feel to it, with lots of healthy as well as western options, and the lady who greeted me each morning was so genki!
The staff smile and help was heartwarming.
Always ready and will do they're best to help.
Inclouding cleaning staff, super polite and concederate.
The location is perfect, train to Osaka and out of Kyoto ia next to the hotel, train for Arashiyama right infront of it. And Kyoto which uses a lot of bus, the station near the hotel makes it feel like central station, you can get anywhere and back very easy.
Loved everything about this hotel. Definitely the best hotel i stayed in during my trip to Japan. Room was spacious, well insulated and spotless. Beds comfortable. Loved using the onsen and it was open quite late which was a bonus. Staff very friendly and spoke good English. Location is perfect right opposite train station.
It's an amazing hotel with just the necessary amenities for a solo traveler! Great location, close to the train station entrances and right next to Nishiki Market Street, one of the best places in Kyoto to buy local omiyage and foods! This was my second time staying and I'll definitely stay again whenever I return to Kyoto!
The best parts of this hotel - the view and the shower. Seriously, the location couldn't be better right in the Gion district. I'm glad I paid the extra lil better to have a superior room with a view. And the shower was huge; I'm going to miss it! Apart from that, the room was lovely and big.
Great value for money. One of the best 4-star hotels we've ever stayed. Excellent services, very clean, polite staff, nice facilities. Good location next to the train station. In total a very comfortable experience in the beautiful city of Kyoto.
The room was big and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful!
Best part was that the hotel is just opposite Kyoto station!
With transport, food and shopping all at the doorstep really enhanced our holiday experience in Kyoto!
Great hotel about 10 minutes walk to JR station. It's on the south side of the Kyoto JR station. The room was bigger than what we expected and the bathroom design was the best we had seen so far on our Japan trip.
Very quiet even though it was located on a main street. Super near Gion and a subway station 3 min walk from the hotel. Convenience store below the hotel.
The room's style reminds of a Ryokan. Beds are very comfy.
Can’t be any better
Hotel is amazing, staff are really lovely
Room is really clean and not too small
Location is the best i’ve stayed in Japan, its 2 mins walking to the station
Luxury hotel, modern Japanese, close to the station, sites, and many restaurants. Great jet bathtub. Great view of river. No outside nice can be heard due to double pane glass
best hotel I’ve stayed at ever. great space for families and excellent location next to train station, multiple restaurants, mall and convenience stores
