Set in Buchholz in der Nordheide, 25 km from Theme Museum Heide, Hotel & Landgasthof Hoheluft offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. Having travelled through Europe for 30+ years, this was my ideal, perfect, stop over. Absolutely spot on. Exactly what I'm hoping for when traveling. Germany is a safe bet when it comes to cleanliness and good food served without any extra frills, just plain good food, so choosing a good hotel or Gasthof is not much of a gamble. But this place was, for me, extraordinary. It had a wonderful restaurant which included the reception. A very kind and considerate lady welcomed me and followed me to my room. A huge one that was super fresh but still genuine. She told me that her son was the 5th generation running the Gasthof and also informed which waiter was the best in English for my upcoming dinner. So a shower and then into the rustic and lovely Gasthof restaurant. I had tonights special which was veal schnitzel and it was PERFECT together with a glass of Riesling. Just sitting there and enjoying the atmosphere. Next day I met the owner, the son in the house, and complemented him for this achievement. I'd recommend this gasthof/hotel to anyone. Absolutely ideal. It only took 30 years to find it. :-) Another bonus is that coming from Stockholm there is one main obstacle you want to avoid. The traffic jams of Hamburg and in particular the Elbes tunnel. In best case it's an extra 30 mins but during holidays and rush hour it can be very daunting. I found this hotel on Booking and choose it because it seemed fresh and was just south of the Elbe river so that next day I would have passed it and have a fresh start continuing south to Alsace. It's a 1000 kms drive from Stockholm and some kms before Hamburg centre my GPS showed me an alternative route. It took me through smaller streets but I was running and I crossed the Elbe via bridges and found this Gasthof in Hohenluft. And it was great to get going without any traffic jam worries.

Il voto (eccellente) che ho dato ad Hannover deriva anche dalla posibilità che la città offre di visitare altri centri non lontani (meno di un'ora di treno), che danno quel qualcosa in più ad una vacanza. Noi abbiamo visitato Hildesheim e Celle, che ci sono piaciute molto più di Hannover, la prima per la splendide chiese e la seconda per il centro storico con le case a graticcio. In ogni caso Hannover ha un centro storico con un'ampia zona pedonale, con una offerta commerciale di prim'ordine (negozi e grandi magazzini), dove si circola a piedi comodamente, a patto di fare attenzione ai ciclisti. Non siamo riusciti a visitare Herrenhausen e i suoi giardini, per il tempo non favorevole, ma consiglierei il Museo di Stato della Bassa Sassonia (vicino al municipio), con una buona collezione di arte antica, una sezione naturalistica, una etnografica e perfino una archeologica. Volevamo cenare alla tedesca siamo stati al Bavarium, in Windmuhlestrasse, vicino all'Opera: buono a a buon prezzo. Molto curato l'arredo urbano ed è stuzzicante scoprire le tante sculture fra antiche, moderne e contemporanee sistemate qua e là: meriterebbero una guida apposita. Comoda la rete del trasporto locale comprendente treni leggeri, metropolitana, tram e autobus.

Fuori da Göttingen (10 minuti in auto), ma in una bella posizione: un delizioso angolo di Bassa Sassonia con le case a graticcio, la vecchia scuola, il piccolo museo e la chiesetta (tutto molto autentico e senza scimmiettature a fini turistici). A piedi, dall'hotel, si possono fare belle e rilassanti passeggiate. L'hotel è bello e con tutti i confort. Il personale gentile e molto professionale. La colazione superlativa!

Very friendly and helpful personnel. As cyclists we loved the location in the forest and beautiful paths, the Spa (Turkish bath in particular) to warm up and relax afterwards, the delicious fruits for breakfast, and the spacious room. We'll come back!
