Eel River Brewing is a fabulous place to drink beer and eat yummy food. All needed services were located in Fortuna. We used Fortuna as a hub to visit Willow Creek, Avenue of the Giants, Trees of Mystery, Redwood Forest, the coast and Fern Canyon. Fortuna was right in the middle of all of them.

Fortuna too small to visit. Just continue to Eureka.
Fortuna too small to visit. Just continue to Eureka.
Ate at maybe the best seafood/steak and it was good. But it may be the only one.
Getting around was easy.
I would stay at Fortuna only to sleep over and fuel up/easy access to freeway.

Convenient to the Avenue of the Giants.
Convenient to the Avenue of the Giants. Brewery with good food is a short walk away. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast option were limited. Room was overpriced, but everything seemed overpriced for off season mid week rates in Fortuna

Fortuna seems to be the town in the middle of a tourist area...
Fortuna seems to be the town in the middle of a tourist area where all the workers live. As a result it's a little short on good restaurants. You have to travel to nearby towns to find anything more than a fast food place. The town itself is not attractive or interesting. Go to the surrounding towns of Ferndale, Rio Dell, and Scotia for ambiance. But as a place to stay for base camp while exploring the surrounding area it's fine (as long as you plan to eat somewhere else before going back to your room). The surrounding area is wonderful. The Avenue of the Giants and Humboldt Redwoods are magnificent and very inspiring. I didn't get to the coast but it seems to be nice too. The area is heavily influenced by the marijuana trade. There are cannabis shops on every corner and residents distinguish between legal and illegal growing operations. They still warn that it might not be wise to wander off established routes because of the danger of interfering with an illegal growing operation (which could get you killed). As a result, the economy isn't thriving. But it is a nice, remote getaway spot and has some very nice opportunities for quiet, introspective moments which are hard to find in more developed areas. If you are looking for theme parks this is not the place to go to.

Fortuna is a great city to stay in while exploring Humboldt...
Fortuna is a great city to stay in while exploring Humboldt County. The weather tends to be less foggy and rainy. The lovely Ferndale is just minutes away and well worth the short drive. While in Ferndale, Centerville Beach is a few short miles also and a great place to walk and exercise dogs. Fortuna has everything you need, i.e. Safeway, restaurants, bargain/used stores, sporting goods, etc.

Fortuna is an excellent home base for exploring the North...
Fortuna is an excellent home base for exploring the North Coast. We explored historic Eureka and ate at the Samoa Cookhouse. Samoa is a historic logging cookhouse and you eat family style like the loggers from days past. Eel River brewery in Fortuna has excellent Calimari and fish and chips for dinner. They offer a wide selection of local beers. We enjoyed Adel's in Eureka for breakfast. Breakfast sampler was a great value for the money.
We loved all the mural artwork that was done throughout the hallways of the hotel. It was fun to have the kids walk around and look at it. The outdoor space is also very nice, but we weren't able to enjoy it because of the weather. We also really appreciated the children's books and little firepit toys that were by the breakfast area. That was definitely enjoyable for the kids. Finally, as a light sleeper, I was so thankful for the good quality of blackout curtains provided.
Loved this hotel! Would definitely stay again. The staff was lovely and very helpful. Hotel was older but updated very well. They helped us park in a special area since we were pulling a small trailer. We didn't need it but the hotel had 2 free electric car charging stations! This was the only hotel out of 12 on our last 2 trips that had that service. Excellent set-up for pets with an enclosed off-leash area and map of dog-friendly walking trails.
Good sized room for a good rate which I found on a hotel booking website. I've stayed here twice in the last month and probably 5 times over the last 10 years. The room was clean and in order. We were visiting Eureka but generally stay in Fortuna as it is generally nicer than a lot of the places in Eureka, if you don't mind the additional drive time. There is no freeway road noise despite being off the 101.
Fortuna was a good place to stop because lodging prices were much cheaper than Ferndale, where we were ultimately headed to take a road along the Lost Coast.
I had the powdered eggs at the breakfast buffet. Would have much preferred real eggs. I could have made a waffle, but wanted to cut down on the calories a little bit:)
Very clean facility, spacious rooms, comfortable bed, quiet, great location with easy freeway access, close to a nice walk path along the Eel River, pet friendly and a nice breakfast buffet that’s included. All staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful.
Quiet location
Room was large clean and comfortable
Fortuna is a lovely place to stay. There is a river walk accessible from the hotel
Lovely indoor pool
Good guest laundry facilities
The Eel brewery pub is next door - great atmosphere and lovely food
The ongoing issue I have is that tons of male construction (or ???) workers stay here and it's REALLY noisy every evening and again at the crack of dawn....and they all seem to smoke. This hotel is aware, but it's the only pet friendly place around.
It was just like being at home - we were so comfortable and relaxed. After a couple weeks in hotels, this was perfect. We actually wished we’d booked for longer. And we loved chatting with the very talkative goats out back.
The location was convenient and the night clerk on staff seemed apologetic for the inconvenience, but I have to rate everything about the hotel poorly based on what appears to be poor management.
bReakfast ok. Typical.
Family operated and very attentive. Take pride in their hotel and it shows. This is a great place to stay! Clean.
Went out of their way for us. Quiet
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well appointed. The fenced in pet area was a nice feature and the outdoor area was inviting.
