Surrounded by Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystical capital of the North. With more than 300 temples, it's considered one of the most important cultural centers in the country.
Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still has a relaxed and laid-back feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.
This reputation is partly due to its proximity to lush green areas, mountains like Doi Suthep, and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 37 miles away with Thailand’s highest mountain.
Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city center are a popular choice, with picturesque scenery featuring its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.
The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Road hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.
Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss "The Rose of the North" deals on Booking.com!
It is a wonderful part of Thailand and great place to enjoy.
It is a wonderful part of Thailand and great place to enjoy. Just remember that to get around this city the red Ute buses are not like the blue Ute buses of Pattaya. Price for use seems to differ with the driver and they tell you when to get off. So it is safer to use Uber.

Our trip to Chiang Mai was good.
Our trip to Chiang Mai was good. Enjoyed our stay at the Kum Phaya resort. The resort was amazing and the staff were friendly.
The resort organises Cultural show and dinner which was not published in Booking.com.
We came to know about it at the reception. Had we known about it we would have booked the cultural show and dinner at our Resort, rather than travelling by taxi to the Old Chiang Mai cultural centre.
In my view this should be promoted in booking.com.
We have not completed our tour and hence unable to comment further.

Chiang Mai is one of the best city we visited in Thailand.
Chiang Mai is one of the best city we visited in Thailand. The city still holds the old culture in terms of its gates, markets, old buildings, temples and some nearby locations which are a must visit.
We visited the night markets which had so much opportunities for shop, the city is connected in a square which you can bike around as well. Stay at Buri Gallery. Visit Mae Kampong Village, see how the villagers live and survive with their means of tourism. Try to stay a night there as well. Drive to Mae Rae district for a picturesque sunsets and sunrise over the hills. If season is right you get to visit the Flower garden as well. There are numerous elephant sanctuary but visit Living Green, they are the most ethical and when we visited the elephants had freedom to do their way and felt like you are coming to their home to meet them. The Living Green Team takes good care of the elephants and make sure the guests have good experience with ample informations about all the elephants. The team is multilingual as well.
I would for my next time hire a good car for entirety of my stay so that I can travel well.
Our 5 day stay at Pingviman Hotel was marvelous! Conveniently located in the heart of the old city, the Pingviman offered us a beautifully appointed room complete with luxury king bed with spa bathtub and private balcony. Each day we'd start with a sumptuous breakfast, step out the door to explore the wonders of Chiang Mai and return to relax and unwind in the beautiful pool (one of the few heated pools in the city) and finally, fall asleep in the wonderfully comfortable bed! Highly recommended!
What an amazing hotel, I could write all day after staying here for over a week. Empress is beautifully designed, immaculately maintained and with a lovely staff. The breakfast is solid with some American and Asian choices to satisfy everyone. The restaurant has limited choices but the food is good for a hotel.
There is a lot of shopping and eating around the hotel but it's a taxi ride to visit the old city. It's definitely a pricier place for Chiang Mai but the luxury is worth it.
This was one of the nicest boutique hotel we've stayed at. The Staff was incredible and very friendly. The bed and room was clean and comfortable. We had a great feeling, the moment we walked into the room. This hotel was situated just outside the old walls to the old city, so it was great to walk around and hit the night markets, temples etc. My partner and I are both walkers, so it was really well situated for us. We would definitely stay here again, when we come back to Chiang Mai.
The room is minimalistic. The entire hotel has the industrial/minimalistic design theme. It was very quiet, sometimes it felt like we where alone. Breakfast was amazing, with around 10 different thai dishes every morning. Haven't eaten the same thing twice during our stay. On Sturday the street becomes night market and is more authentic than the one in the city center. The hotel is around 100 meters outside of the old city center. Excellent value for money,
The room was spacious and beautiful. We even had a big fridge in there! It's in a great neighborhood, not too busy and a nice walk to get to the center. There also is a cheap laundromat within 5 minutes walking. Free water is provided in the hotel lobby, so that we could fill up our own bottles without having to buy plastic ones. Highly appreciated. We found this to be the best hotel out of the four different places we stayed at in Chiang Mai.
Location is excellent, walking distance to many of Chiang Mai's best restaurants. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. The outside laundry handled by the hotel staff was very quick (same day-about 6 hours), inexpensive and well laundered. Not a lot of comfortable common space but a nice place to stay. Great value for the area. Daily maid service was quick, quiet and efficient and always done when away from the room.
Excellent customer service from airport pick up to airport drop off. Lovely ambience of a small Thai hotel. Great super clean pool. Perfect breakfast, not too much but good western options plus daily Thai options, fruit, salad, juice, cereal ... late check out was super cheap at 100Thb per hour. We'll located, only a short walk to the night bazaar and Sunday night markets and the old city with plenty of tuk tuks and taxis around.
My sister and I had a wonderful stay at the Kiri Hotel in Chiang Mai. The hotel is within the Old City are, which made it convenient and a short ride to the night bazar and to and from the airport.
The facility is immaculate and the staff is so kind and accommodating. The breakfast was very nice and “Palm” and “ Ford”, servers in the restaurant were exceptional. We had a wonderful 3 day stay at this hotel while in Chiang Mai.
Nud (our concierge) was extremely hospitable, friendly, and always available! She gave us the best recommendations throughout our stay and was there to help us book all our activities and rentals.
The hotel was very central to everything (walking distance) to restaurants, bars, gyms, markets, etc., within the Old City. The property and room were very clean and quiet. Nice rooftop area with private pool.
Located within in the old city, within walking distance to one of the main temples. The Sunday walking street passes directly opposite.
Breakfast is buffet style but with an additional choice for the egg option/soup.
If you book directly with the hotel, they provide access to small tours.
Free bike to use which is really handy if you would like to explore more.
Everything about this place was perfect. The staff were lovely, the rooms are big, the pool was very clean and the decor was awesome.
Location was also perfect, the north east of the old city is the nicest imo.
There's a nice coffee shop attached to the hotel and a 5 min walk down the road you have The Blue Diamond Cafe which serves the best breakfast!
New hotel.
Fantastic staff, willing to help at every point.
Free laundry services everyday, as well as free coffee, snacks, water and all other facilities.
Great quiet location, close to the Old City.
Fantastic value for money.
Probably one of the best hotels in Chiang Mai, especially for expats. Will stay again for sure.
This hotel is a beautiful refuge inside the bustling city of Chiang Mai. The rooms are cozy and well appointed. The staff is absolutely wonderful - friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were some of the best meals my husband and I had on our whole trip. We felt safe and well cared for the entire time we stayed there.
Located between the walls of the old town, it's close to few iconic temples and the food market. Narrow streets between the locals traditional houses. The host is very helpful with advices and booking trips and taxi. I think it was the best choice for Chiang Mai flavors.
A very good balance quality - value.
The location of the hotel is excellent! In the middle of the old city! The staff was extremely nice, very helpful, very friendly, very lovely. The swimming pool was also very nice and beautifull. If I ever come to Chiang Mai again, I would choose this hotel.
Sweet and cozy place to stay at! We had a room with balcony with view on a small road. Small coffehouse is located in the same building! The hotel is located in a quieter place. Everything in the old city is in walking distance. Clear recommandation to book!
The hotel is very near to the airport and within the old city of Chiangmai. Nice hotel with cute cafe and open lounge. Room is big but feel a bit oversize since there are not occupied by furnitures.
This place is located at a convenient distance from the Old City. The owner of the hotel and his family are super nice and helpful and just lovely to talk to.
