The location was nice and peaceful and the hosts were great. We arrrived early and the hosts were accomodating enough to let us in early. The property is in a rural setting but is still realtively handy to Wellsford and Mangawhai.

Beautiful location with a stunning view. Nice grounds with a little tropical walkway to a pond, decorated with stone buddhas and fire pits. 2 kitchen areas. Peaceful, tranquil. The eco pod was comfortable and nicely decorated, everything looked really new. Same stunning view from the bed. Mangawhai Lodge, hotel in Te Arai

Offering free WiFi and free parking, Mangawhai Lodge is located at Mangawhai Heads, halfway between Auckland Airport and the Bay of Islands.

Very comfortable room with a lovely balcony and a gorgeous view. The common room, with its beautiful furnishings, useful information and wrap-around verandah, was spectacular. Breakfast with that view was a delight. Jeannette was lovely, a real pleasure to sit and talk with. Having retired from her nursing work now, after 27 years running The Lodge, she is looking forward to a well-deserved rest, and has decided to put the place on the market, hopefully to be sold to someone who will continue the tradition as a going concern.

Really tasteful townhouse, perfect for us - we are 5 friends travelling to do the mangawhai coastal walk. Generous coffee pods, teas and milks, nice linens. Great location within walking distance of the pub/ market/ mangawhai shops. Had a microwave, toaster etc and plenty of crockery for takeaways.

The Hideout, hotel in Te Arai

Set in Mangawhai, The Hideout offers a garden and barbecue facilities. This property offers access to a balcony, free private parking and free WiFi.

Beautifully designed and located private cottage for a couple tucked into lovely rainforest in a valley at the bottom of farmland. Buying food or eating out requires a bit of a drive and it is good to check in and unload in daylight so you know the long entrance track before you return from dining out.

Its a private estate property with plenty of greenery.

Its a private estate property with plenty of greenery. Communication from the owners regarding the driving direction was great ,we appreciated the warm welcome and nice reception by the owner Ivy after we reached the property. Enjoyed bird songs amidst calm and peaceful surroundings away from hustle and bustle of the city. View of the green meadow and bush from the porch was really pretty, sky / clouds kept changing to brilliant hues in the dusk . After the sundown we went for a wee walk around the property , the view of the star lit night sky was magical . Room was clean, modern , well decorated and very comfortable, we loved the mellow lighting. Washroom was very modern , great fixtures and water pressure was brilliant too. Overall had a nice stay.Unfortunately due to incessant rain and inclement weather we were unable to explore the flora and fauna of the estate on foot. Note for fellow travelers : Check weather before travelling . TV channels are very limited, so if it is wet , we suggest carrying pre downloaded movies / songs / games etc for entertainment after sundown, as wifi was weak and was dropping off frequently , nothing much to do if it rains. Also carry a USB charging plug along with charging cable , the room has none. Carry gumboot if you want to go for a walk as it is muddy if it rains , and not good for regular shoes/sneakers. Room/Washroom had a strange smell , although after we turned on the dehumidifier , the smell was gone. Property has a steep driveway so be careful if driving in rain. Late in the night dogs were left outside to roam , and they kept triggering the sensor lights , so we did not sleep that well. We felt a bit stuck inside room, outside seating arrangements were great but wet (as no roof over the patio / porch) . Overall we did not mind , as were staying only for a night.

It was the most beautiful boutique BnB we have ever stayed at. The architecture of the home is fabulous and the furnishings were luxurious but the thing that separates it from others is the hosts who made our stay so memorable
