Close to regular buses going to Onetangi and other direction...

Close to regular buses going to Onetangi and other direction to Oneroa and ferry. Ostend has seating’up town’, shade under sail with tables and grass under foot, big interesting Saturday market, large RSA,Woolworths supermarket, clothing shop and interesting boutique style gift shop, several more and a petrol station and eating out places. It’s pleasant walking around paths off road, the odd local has put a seating bench outside front gate for the public- beautiful views of sea.Easy short walk to The Causeway and moored old quaint boats. Our family group came for family wedding, stayed at Waiheke Motel in four studios, Ostend.Awesome.

    One large Countdown Supermarket.

One large Countdown Supermarket. Some eateries and takeaways Many local vineyards. We had lunch at Stonebridge Vineyard, it was excellent. Afterwards walked Onetangi beach which we understood to be a World Heritage Beach. Our stay was all too short. We will certainly return to this accommodation for a longer period. Waiheke is a beautiful, picturesque island and only a 40minute ferry ride to City centre of Auckland

I loved the beaches , scenery and wineries most of all.

I loved the beaches , scenery and wineries most of all. The unsealed windy roads can be difficult to negotiate in places. The food and wine was excellent although very expensive. One of the restaurants at Ostend beach did not display prices of cabinet food and ice creams so was disappointed when discovered how expensive it was. I paid $6 for waffle cone icecream with a tablespoon of ice cream which disappeared into the cone!!

So much to see and do.

So much to see and do. A few things we didn't get to as we hadn't realised you need to book activities well in advance. We were lucky to get a snorkel booking in, we almost missed that opportunity. So many vineyards .. do visit as many as you can as each one has a different character. Do plan to see the outdoor art exhibitions as well, but do book these - we couldn't visit the Sculpture Trial as they were fully booked :( E-Bike your way around the island .. total treat! The island is very pet friendly .. took our pooch with us everywhere we went and she was always welcome.

    The locals are super friendly.

The locals are super friendly. Winieries are all fantastic, knowledgeable, and will also recommend wines from others. Vino vino was a great place for a drink overlooking the bay, and the oyster inn has such amazing food. The public transport is very easy to use. It runs from one side of the island and then back - but requires cash.

You dont go to Waiheke Island for Ostend.

You dont go to Waiheke Island for Ostend. This is the service part of the island, where you do your groceries, visit the Saturday Farmers Market, go to Placemakers etc. Ostend is on your way to somewhere else on the island for scenery, beaches, wineries, restaurants etc.

The view! Such a magical location, very clean and comfortable chalets that were perfect for a relaxing getaway. Steve was incredibly helpful and kind and made the logistics of our trip very easy. Although in a more remote area of the island, it was still only 10 minutes from town (Ostend) so we really had the best of all Waiheke worlds - but if you want to explore, definitely take advantage of the hire car. Will be thinking about those big windows that overlooked the water for a very long while.

This is a fabulous place to stay. If you want the familiar comforts of a run of the mill hotel, this isn't it. This place is full of character, interest and personal touches. It is set in a peaceful, rural location about 500m uphill from the bus stop. It's a 20 minute walk up and then downhill to a beautiful beach. There is a supermarket about 1km away. It is clean, comfortable and quiet. Sit on the verandah in the evening and listen to the sounds of nature. Highly recommended.

Boatsheds on the Bay is perfectly situated with lovely outdoor areas and right on the water. Catching public transport is easy with two bus stops located near by on Causeway Road to get to either Ostend/ Onetangi or to Oneroa. The rooms are perfectly appointed and super clean.
