Beautiful, idyllic location. The interior was cozy (with a wood burning stove!) and decorated with small touches. Really enjoyed being in the peaceful countryside.

Queen Elizabeth park is great, there is a train and boat rides and the park itself is huge, on the day we visited there everything was free to go on and there was a mini market so you could buy some food. Then you can go across the road to the pools - indoor and outdoor and that was free also. We liked the compactness of Masterton and its got heaps of shops and heaps of options Makkies, KFC, Subways, PaknSave, Countdown etc. We got Roast meals one night, very yum and way too much. We will be back soon.

We based ourselves in Masterton so we could explore the Wairaparapa Region. We went to the Pukaha (Mt Bruce) wildlife reserve, did the Star Safari, visited Aotearoa Stonehenge, went to the Cape Palliser Light House and Seal Colony, visited Ngawi and had a delicious lunch at Lake Ferry Hotel. We also had delicious custard filled cronuts at the Land Girls Cafe in Pirinoa, amazing Fish and Chips at The Lake Ferry Hotel and ate three times at the 10 O'clock Cookie Bakery Cafe in Masterton.

Masterton Park has been excellently developed.
Thr ribbon development is still bad on the southern side.
Masterton is the home of notable schools and we enjoyed the grounds and facilities at Wairarapa College where our large Christian festival was held.

Masterton is beautiful, Mawley Park brilliant accom. Needed to contact Booking.com was unable to make contact. It was frustrating. But the Mawley Park manager more than made up for the booking.com discrepancy. The trip could have easily turned to custard if Les (the manager) didn't help 🤔

We loved Queen Elizabeth Park.
We loved Queen Elizabeth Park. It has great play areas for children and lots of interesting places to stroll. We found an aviary and a swing bridge and there is a lake where you can hire paddle boats (in weekends?) and a little train for rides (weekends?)
We had lunch at Entice Cafe across the road and afternoon tea at Ten O'clock Cookie Bakery. Both were excellent.
The house was amazing. Built in 1887, and upgraded with modern fittings, while maintaining the charm of the old villa. Very conveniently laid out. Separate coffee room. Huuuuge room with a comfy bed, and (quite possibly) the best bathroom I've seen in any hotel/motel. Nice (common) lounge with a large TV and home theatre system (with Netflix). Enjoyed a nice movie and whisky after dinner in there.
Alistair and Jane are great hosts. Cooked us a lovely breakfast, and were genuinely friendly folk.
It was affordable during Wings over Wairarapa - no huge price hikes like other places - we were so lucky to have been able to go to the show... the staff member also gave us a tip as to where we can get discounts - as we had a gaggle of children with us. I usually stay here when I go to Masterton - there is a playground for the kids and it's close to town and the pools.
There is the odd bunny around the place which works well when it's coming up to Easter for the littlies.
Grand, spacious rooms named after famous NZ racehorses. Very comfortable beds and modern, well-appointed bathrooms. Room was wonderfully quiet and felt very secure. Common areas are currently under renovation and look like they will have an amazing almost country lodge feel. We travel to Masterton regularly to visit family and Gateway probably has the best rooms available in town. Most of the owners(?)/managers/staff were amazingly friendly and helpful.
We had a very comfortable stay and we had everything we needed. The house is lovely and modern and we easily could've stayed there for weeks! The bathroom was a highlight with the wonderful bathtub and we loved being able to relax in the lounge at night and watch the big tv. I would definitely recommend this stay to family and friends and would love to stay again next time we're in Masterton.
Loved the atmosphere of this quirky hotel, decor is fabulous, rooms spacious, clean & comfortable the refurbishment of these old stables has been done well. Felt well looked after and customer service by chap in charge exceeded expectations. I left my phone charger behind but I was advised not long after leaving and was able to return to pick it up before I even knew it was missing.
Our stay was a dream. The hosts are lovely, very accommodating and friendly whilst remaining discreet and mindful of their guests’ privacy. The house is beautiful and warm. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like babies. Generous portions for a delicious breakfast ideally complemented a perfect stay in Masterton.
Brian & Nicky were awesome lovely hosts. Very accommodating and hands-on. The place/room has a relaxed feel and is situated beside the vineyard, The kids had a great time. And just before we left, my wife said to me, "Next time we're back in Masterton, let's stay here again!"
-indoor heated pool
-outside trampoline facility
-several large guest 'lounge' areas to meet visitors and for kids to play so not confined to hotel room when raining
-very friendly and helpful office staff
All was perfect there... friendly host, really nice place, full furnished tiny houses...
We spent very good time in Karen's tiny houses. We'll be back there when we'll be back to Masterton
Fantastic location only 10 mins from Masterton yet felt like we were right out in a remote area.
Great views, great for sitting on the deck in the bean bags with a glass of wine!
Impressed with the host who resolved the mix-up with the booking quickly with some creative thinking. This ensured that my group could enjoy our weekend stay in Masterton.
