Parma is one of the less touristy Italian destinations. It has a beautiful medieval historic centre, cathedral, baptistry and piazza, all in an area prohibited to traffic and with very few crowds. Make sure to visit the Pilotta Palace, which houses the National Gallery of Parma. In the gallery you will find the small but exquisite 'La Scapigliata', 'The Lady with Dishevelled Hair', an unfinished oil painting attributed to Leonard da Vinci and sharing the same mysterious beauty as the Mona Lisa. The staff were always friendly and helpful. We also loved the valet parking which was easy and convenient.
