We found swinford very central for travelling around the west,Knock,Galway,Sligo and Castlebar. We ate in the Gateway Hotel every day both breakfast and dinner were excellent,Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

There for family gathering a few miles away. Good situation to explore the surrounding area and....get to the sea. If self catering shops all within walking distance. On the whole excellent roads with the exception of the quirky single track roads with grass growing up the middle ....satnav seemed to have a penchant for finding a route using some of these L roads....beware😂😱. He became an important human rights advocate for here and other colonial countries, which have had very little voice in governments. Go visit the famine graveyard in Swinford, behind the hospital. Check out Mellett's Drinking Emporium, a real old world pub full of artefacts and memorabilia from past times. Also the 19th century handball alley and the Brabazon memorial in the graveyard.
