Layout of the town is terrible.

Layout of the town is terrible. Very difficult to find things and drive in for someone who is not familiar with it. Restaurants are adequate; a good variety. Mostly need to be there because of services (solicitor, accountant, etc.). My understanding is that the hospital is not very good.

We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar.

We as a family spent a long weekend in Castlebar. A car is not required to get around town. There are many lovely cafes for lunch and we had dinner at Pizza Bros which was very reasonably priced and food was delicious. There are many other lovely restaurants to choose from. The Irish Bar looked great for lunch but due to it's popularity we didn't get to try it. Another great pub - John McHales. Went there on Sunday night and they had live music playing - great atmosphere. We found an Escape Room Experience called INSiDE which is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of town - highly recommend it... we really enjoyed it. We also went bowling and then hired a car and went to Westport for a day. We ate at The Towers Bar & Restaurant. Food was amazing.. We drove along the coast to Bertra Beach with amazing scenery along the way. Could have done with a few more days - great weekend

Castlebar isn't particularly interesting...we only ever use it as a stopover or a base to travel further into mayo and Galway ... Westport Cong, Ashford castle /Achill are accessible and beyond to Connemara if you don't mind driving....

Castlebar is a substantial town, with some good amenities and shopping. It's a good base for exploring Mayo and is reasonably close to Knock, Westport and Killala. Happy to recommend Bistrot 1798 restaurant - we had a lovely meal there. Great ambience and food, and very efficient, pleasant service. Good for a date night.

Castlebar is a vibrant town plenty of shops on the doorstep of the Ellison hotel beside the lovely Peace Garden Memorial and the National Museum of Ireland is just out in Tourlagh. Some of the crossing are hard to manage with a wheelchair.

2 Night stay - We were blown away by this property, this beautiful house is Luxurious, comfortable, and spacious. Our host Mary was welcoming and helpful throughout. This is a beautifully built and furnished Georgian style country house which sits in between Castlebar and Westport Quay and so there is plenty to do in the local area. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and delicious with lots of choices. Superb value for money and I highly recommend if you are travelling to this area.

The location was fantastic. A nice walk from Castlebar train station was very easily done in about twenty minutes (I was walking very slowly). The hosts were extremely friendly. The place is so homely and peaceful, a very gentle atmosphere overall hangs in the air. Would definitely return to the next time I’m in Castlebar and would definitely recommend to anyone. The value for money/comfort combination is just perfect.

The room was very big and spacious. The beds were soo comfortable and we had a great night sleep. The room was lovely and warm (not too hot). We stayed only one night as we went for a concert but I would definitely come back. It only a 5 minute drive from Castlebar, was a nice location. Margaret was a lovely host and had a nice chat with her before we left. Next time I’m in Mayo, I’d stay here 🙂

This hotel was conveniently located near several great shops and restaurants in Castlebar. The room, while relatively basic, suited my needs for the two days I stayed there. I believe I overhead that the hotel would house several people from Ukraine the following week, so I appreciate that role of serving people who need a soft place to land during a very difficult time.

Des and Oonagh were fantastic, knowledgeable hosts. We opted for scrambled eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast. We requested the eggs be well done, but not browned. Eggs were light and fluffy, breakfast was delicious! Des recommended going to Castlebar for dinner and music. We had a fun night in town and then were off to the Museum of Country Life which was a must see.

We have stayed in the Breaffy House Hotel and have always been very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. The hotel has loads of indoor and outdoor seating areas (with heaters) and is very compliant with Covid regulations. Food in the bar is very good. Rooms have been updated since we last stayed and are bright and fresh. Overall, well worth a visit.

The property grounds were gorgeous. The bar was well run except for the young fellow throwing the bottles into the skip. It sounded like they all broke and it did my head in. The Mulberry was lovely for a super breakfast. We ended up having dinner in the bar as the menu was mote flexible. The WiFi was excellent throughout.

The hotel is very close to the center. Rooms were modern and comfortables. Staff were lovely and breakfast was very good. We went to a show in the TF Royal, Castlebar Events Theatre and it was a two minute walk to it from the hotel which was great. There was also a carpark which was great.

Very quiet location and lovely landscaped gardens. Exceptionally friendly and helpful host. Meadbh insisted on running my wife and into nearby Castlebar (twice) so that could both enjoy a drink. The studio apartment wants for nothing and a full Irish breakfast was provided too.
