Woodhill House, hotel in Ardara

Surrounded by beautiful tranquil countryside and well-kept gardens, this charming family-run country house offers comfortable accommodations, tasty fresh food and a traditional Irish welcome.

Woodhill House is located just ‘outside’ of the town Adara. Our drive was 3 min into town for dinner. We were there in late winter/early spring. I’m sure the gardens are beautiful later in the season and into summer. Our host John gave us several ideas for our adventures and was so friendly and welcoming.

So underrated, I would wholly recommend Ardara to anyone looking for friendly, kind locals in Donegal. It’s a quiet town in the middle of the west coast, perfect as a base for exploring Co. Donegal. Nancy’s Pub is great in the evenings; Sliabgh Liag Distillery is a must-visit and Eddie Doherty is a local celebrity with his weaving skills! Reasonably priced Donegal tweed products - much more affordable than the other shop in town. The Courthouse (in the Heritage Center) also does delicious breakfasts and baked goods. The only thing I’d be wary of is walking along the road - the drivers speed regardless of the time of day.

    Easy to get around.

Easy to get around. Parking in free car parks or on the street. Good base for touring Donegal. Main hotel Nesbitt Arms are taking in Ukrainian refugees so will be closed to tourist accommodation. The Corner House & other pubs are lively on a weekend night, so it can be noisy on the streets after hours. Mostly good pub food available - very few restaurants.

For a start, Geraldine and her staff were wonderful and truly thoughtful. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean and very comfortable. The beds were large and very comfortable too. The main bathroom was large and even cleaner than the rest of the rooms! The kitchen had every convenience, from a large table and many chairs to all sorts of snacks, cereals, tea and milk. Lastly it was quite and peaceful with large windows that looked out on the picturesque Main Street of Ardara. What a great place to stay.

Auntie B's is really exceptional. It is a bed and breakfast with impeccable standards all driven by Barbara who has hospitality running through her veins. Pride, great care, generosity and thoughtfulness are to the fore. Simple, bright, well-aired accommodation that is spotlessly clean and a breakfast cooked fresh to order by Barbara herself, and served by her lovely staff. A little gem with more to offer than a lot of hotels. Thank you Barbara for showing how it should be done.

Very cosy and clean room with a perfect bed, it seemed to sleep in 5 stars hotel for the quality of the sheets and materasso! We had a private bathroom right in front of the room but it didn’t disturb us at all, it was for our use only. A lovely breakfast with a homemade pancakes and a beautiful view completed a very pleasant experience we had in this B&B! Both owners are very friendly )

This stay is so amazing. The house is on a perfect location. 6 mins drive from the beautiful town ardara. The view from the livingroom is phenomenal. My host Adrian and Brigitte, they're the best. They're down to earth. They're best example of hospitality. They're living in heaven I would say. Clean and cosy room . Continental breakfast will be served. Definitely coming back.

The Old Barracks is a great location to stay in the centre of Ardara. Jacinta went out of her way to accommodate our needs. Her home baking was very appreciated too. we only spent a night but this would be a fabulous place to base yourself to see the sights of the area. Her recommendation to go go Marghera Beach and caves was great.

I very much liked the location of the apartment, walking distance to Ardara town, but you must take care as it is a a busy road. I don't advise you to do this in the dark. Lots of information located in the apartment about taxis, restaurants and local amenities. Very hospitable Karen and checking all is ok.

The hotel is located right in the center of town. Thomas, the proprietor, was so kind and helpful. He even brought our son’s wet laundry to his home to dry it for us before we checked out! The self-serve breakfast was so plentiful! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay.
