Charming island in a 2 hour ferry ride from Piraeus. Lots of waterside cafes and other restaurants in the center. Nice easy walks along the water, or steeper hikes up the hillside. Many shops. A good place for relaxing.

NIce island. No cars. Beaches easy to access. Plenty o decent restaurants Sometimes Hydra Town gets a bit touristy mostly when the big passenger boats come in. The business goes when the passenger ships leave! Nice opportunities for walks outside town, beautiful environment. The town is clean and there are some small supermarkets to get supplies.

Pros: Clean, great food, many options, a lot to see.
Pros: Clean, great food, many options, a lot to see. Good for walking, has small horses and donkeys for transportation. No cars. Everything in walking distance. Cons: many of the restaurants were not open (March 2024), while their websites said they were. Relevantly pricey. Ugly, monstrous yachts moored at the front of the little harbour. Expect tourists with an attitude - not very friendly.

Hydra is the sort of place where you can quite happily sit at a cafe on the harbour side and do nothing apart from watch the boats and people come and go. It’s such a beautiful harbour. There’s a swimming area at the headland at one end of the harbour, where the rocks have been modelled to provide comfortable sitting and sunbathing, and where the water is an absolutely gorgeous colour. There are taxi boats to beaches further away, tho I didn’t use them.JamesUnited Kingdom

Nice view from the terraces. Water kettle and refrigerator in the room. The shower is seperated from the toilet with a wall, so the bathroom doesn‘t get completely wet like usually in greece. The water is very hot. The owner was very nice and already waited for us. As we forgot our toothpaste the owner was helpful in providing us with a small toothpastetube.

Our kind host Yiannis met us at the boat landing with keys and walked us to the hotel - he even carried some luggage. He was exceptionally attentive to our every need and his mom even did our laundry. The hotel was in an incredible location, right in the middle of town, and was obviously lovingly maintained. No wonder it won a European Heritage Award 20 years ago. Some may judge some of the rooms a bit small or rudimentary, but that is part of the Bratsera adventure.
