Castle is amazing!Worth of visiting for sure!One of the Georgian highlights!You can set the base here,and go around a bit,to such a place as Vardzia and so,and to go straight to Batumi from there (just be aware of the snow-covered pass during the winter/early spring time, not available by regular car).

We made a last minute change to our travel plans to come to Akhaltsikhe for 1 night. 1 night us definitely not enough, 2 nights would have been better to fit in a a slow paced tour of vardzia (2-3 hours recommended, plus 2 hours total driving time). Give plenty of time to have a full tour of the fortress. The town is very cute, and cool experience

Very impressive fortress/castle of IX century, rebuilt in XII century. However, in my opinion, some parts of the reconstruction of 2012 doesn't fit well with old structures and makes to desire much more. Overall, it is worth to visit it. But, if you are in Akhaltsikhe, you are simply OBLIGUED to visit Vardzia caves (1 hour away). It will leave you astonished!!! And also Saro megaliths and ruins of 2nd millennium BC (45 min away)... And much more...

A very interesting place. Rabati was fantastic, there are many other beautiful fortresses, churches, monasteries around. The nature was beautiful. Only about 62 km from Vardzia - a must see in Georgia.

Akaltsikhe is a beautifull area in Georgia and a good place to start tours to e.g. Vardiz or Borjomi. The castle in Akaltsikhe is a huge rebuild old castle renewed with new sites inside the castle walls. An exciting mixture of old and new. Be sure to have time for all the corners with nice mosaic basins and walk up the stairs to the towers for extraordinary good view.

He drove us not only to Vardzia but also to historical places and photo spots we had not known. In addition, the price was low for what he had done for us. Thanks to him, we were able to fully enjoy our trip. 2, Diana’s Hospitality When I found a laundry, she took care of the laundry. Thanks to them, I love Georgia even more.
