Too noisy rooms (especially during the weekend), very bad customer service (most staff don't smile, duty manager doesn't care about complaints) swimming/spa requires additional charge and pre-booking, food in the restaurant is not good and overpriced

Great quick visit to the cathedral as closing an hour after we arrived. Stunning interior with view of peregrines on spire (visible and via webcam). City was clean and sunny. Lots of restaurant choices - we went for the Slap & Pickle concession in The Counting House (hands down all three of us said it was the best burger we’d had). The sandstone buildings are stunning. Sadly didn’t have time to visit the Hepworth or YSP but will be back .

Not a welcoming city centre. Most bars had bouncers.
Not a welcoming city centre. Most bars had bouncers. Police in numbers, drafted in for Friday night. Ambulances stationed in the city centre in preparation.
Chip shops shut on Friday night. Restaurants were either very posh and expensive it had sauce bottles and kitchen roll on the tables and still expensive.

We visited The Hepworth Gallery, which was the whole reason for our trip. Wakefield is a pleasant centre to walk round, but could do with more places to eat in the evenings.
Some lovely buildings and structures to see.

Extra large bedroom (room 64) but small double bed, there...
Extra large bedroom (room 64) but small double bed, there was ample room for a king size bed. Lighting in the room was very dim and proved difficult to put on make up etc. The enormous bathroom only had a slither of a glass shelf under the mirror, over the sink, so our own toiletries had to be left on the floor.
No grab handle over the bath to access the shower, very dangerous getting in and out.
No hotel information pack in the room. So we didn't know timings for dining and pool etc. and the spa treatments on offer.
No lift to the third floor and no offer of assistance with our bags.
Cooked breakfast was served luke warm.
Quite simply the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay at. The bed was had half the springs missing, the quilt and pillow were yellow, the bathroom had yellow grout and the shower was cold and to top it all the coffee tasted like mud. After a 16 hr day I would have expected to sleep (or pass out) but the wall were so thin you could hear the person above going to the toilet and passing wind in the night. Awful place it would have been Breyer sleeping in the van.
- Very comfortable bed, had a great sleep.
-Carpets looked new and where nice under foot.
-Bathroom shower was spacious and had good pressure. The complimentary shower products ( body wash, shampoo and conditioner) where really great quality.
- location to the centre of Wakefield in the part where the bars are & the train station where really great. 5- 10 minutes walk.
- I drove to the property and to have a car park free to use was a nice touch.
The friendly staff The location near shops and town centre. The delicious food served in the hotel restaurant. The breakfast was beautifully cooked and served. The room was quiet and comfy. Yet the pub and restaurant were just 10 yards away with plenty of music and buzz. Plenty of free parking for guests .Overall The Mews was excellent. It was exactly an English cottage inn with fabulous staff, excellent food and a very comfy and cosy ambience.
Good size room with plenty of storage space and work surfaces as it was an executive room. Bed was very comfortable with quality white linen. Shower was large walk-in style concealed behind a false wall which was confusing to find at first!
Enormous free car park and bus stop into town centre five minutes walk away. Very good food in Ramada restaurant, and drink prices reasonable for hotel.
We have enjoyed the property, the place is a bit smaller than i expected, nonetheless, it is warm, bright and cosy, we loved the coffee, tea and bread that left for us, since we didn't have a chance to pop over to the supermarket. the rooms are clean and with lovely decor, everything and more are there. we definitely recommend the property should anyone are staying in wakefield.
The room was lovely, small but had everything I needed. Was looking forward to my "full English" so was a little disappointed when I was offered a sandwich instead (I am not a morning bread person) and the breakfast service felt a little rushed. The evening staff were so polite, a credit to the hotel.
Fantastic breakfast; free access to a sports centre opposite the hotel (gym, steam room, swimming pool); easy access to the city centre - there's a bus outside the hotel that runs every 10 mins or so, so you don't need a car.
We stayed at a Holiday Inn hotel and were surprised by how friendly the staff was in particular (Ben) and how spacious the room was. I highly recommend staying at any Holiday inn Wakefield hotel as you won't be disappointed.
The hotel is good value for money. The location is great, a few minutes walk from Newmiller Dam country park, where there are several pubs, restaurants and cafe; also close to the M1. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
great location in a very large park with duck pond, aviary, rose gardens, and children’s play area.
Recently refurbished to a good standard. Relaxing location and close to Wakefield City Centre and Hepworth Gallery.
-The location was convenient as it was in the centre of Wakefield.
-The room was spacious with a great city view
-There was a small kitchen with a fridge, freezer, microwave and sink.
the hotel is a 2 minute walk from the city centre. it was clean and we liked the pillow options of firm and soft. the staff we spoke to were very friendly.
