Imatra is home to the castle-style Imatran Valtionhotelli, an iconic riverside hotel. Designed by Usko Nyström in 1903, this Jugend style building used to be a military hospital during the war. The famous Imatrankoski Rapids is one of the main attractions in the area for the last 100 years and the biggest rapids in Europe.

This is an amazing place.
This is an amazing place. Acomodation was simply great for families with children and even couple or group of friends. Host was extremely helpful and very responsive to help and guide. House was very neat and tidy and best of all just few meters away from lake, view was breathtaking. Recommend friends and family.

The best in Imatra are the wonderful sand beaches and the lakes. It is EASY to get there if you have a car. The best place to eat is the Buttenhoff restaurant in the center. We also had a lunch in a nice restaurant/ Café Sula right next to the river Vuoksi. Unfortunately Imatra is suffering from lack of tourists and many shops in the center are empty, if people could put their art /photos on the windows the center would be nicer. The waterfall was a powerfull attraction especially in the evening. I would go next time again to the very special Veteran museum opposite the Valtionhotelli .TinttiGermany - 8.0Scored 8.0

There will be an Imatra rapids show (Imatran koskinäytös) till end of August, starting 18.00 everyday for some 20 minutes water discharge from the dam. Some music serenades the show. However, beware of those annoying mosquitoes and bring repellents!Cedric - 10Scored 10

This is a wonderful place with Finland spirit - authentic, meditational and strong! I need it at least twice a year - to recharge by batteries, and to get the energy to live in speedy Moscow! We will be back shortly!!

I love Imatra very much.
I love Imatra very much. Visit it almost every year because it is not far from my home town. However it is not only locality but also its nature, clean air, scenery, good food and peaceful atmosphere that attracts me a lot.

We traveled during the corona season when the prices were low, hence the excellent price-to-quality ratio. There were neighbors during the long weekend, but we hardly noticed them. Lots of living space, nice terrace, small bedrooms, and a view on the lake (which will likely close in for the summer). Because of covid, all nearby facilities (inc. the small shopping center and the spa) were closed, so check for their schedule before arrival, otherwise it's driving to everywhere.MattiFinland

We arrived by car, but noticed that there is a bus stop almost in front of the property for those without a vehicle. The bathrooms had plenty of hot water and were bright and cheerful. Even though the property is located near an intersection, it's very quiet at night and the rooms have good soundproofing. Great value for money and we would definitely return.JohnFinland

We stayed in larger house with our 2 children, 10 and 16 years old, and it was a perfect fit for us. You can both enjoy nature - there is a lake close by, and plenty of trails in the forest - as well as civilization. There is a hotel at the other side of the road, with SPA, bowling and byciles rental, as well as a nice restaraunt on the lake. Imatra town is at 5 min ride and has many stores and other facilities.

The living space was huge and the bedrooms were also very big. In the summer I can imagine it would be lovely because it is just metres from the shore and there is a nice outdoor area. There was a nice fireplace and the sauna heated up quickly. There were two good sized bathrooms and laundry facilities.MalissaFinland
