Known as the "Jewel Box", Dresden is a stunning German city with rich history, an important classical music scene, and an unforgettable Baroque and Rococo-inspired city center.
Located on the banks of the Elbe River, the whole city was destroyed during World War II, but has now been rebuilt into one of the most interesting places in Europe. Like a phoenix from the ashes, the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) is an imposing building that is one of the most beloved symbols of the city.
Magnificent Zwinger Palace is the main Dresden attraction, featuring impressive pavilions and a majestic garden in the middle. Continue your journey along the cultural centre of Germany and visit the picturesque Baroque square of Neumarkt. Everything! Easily my favourite city to visit in Germany so far for its sheer beauty. Amazingly I got last minute tickets to the Semperoper (the opera) to watch “The Magic Flute”.
The architecture, the food, the people are what make Dresden the special place it is.
The Hop on Hop off bus tours are great as they take you to the suburbs in the hills that you would otherwise not get a chance to see. Great views and a good cafe in one suburb to have a coffee.

I went for trains and there is a lot for train fans.
I went for trains and there is a lot for train fans. Two narrow gauge steam trains, only 15 minutes by train away from the main station: Weißeritztalbahn and Lößnitzgrundbahn. The Transport museum (Verkehrshaus) next to the Frauenkirche is also worth a visit. Take the 1.5 hour train east to Zittau and you get to another great and famous narrow gauge steam train line. And you are only scratching the surface here. If you are in the UK, take the Eurostar to London, then continue with the Eurosleeper in a direct train to Dresden. You can even easily make a day trip to Prague!

Dresden’s history is mind boggling.
Dresden’s history is mind boggling. There are so many areas worth exploring, both within the city and on the outskirts. Rapid transit is easy to negotiate.
Dresden was certainly the cultural Center of Germany and, despite being bombed at the end of WW2, the resilience of Dresdeners helped restore a unique city.

Dresden has obviously much to offer in terms of history,...
Dresden has obviously much to offer in terms of history, with its many museums or locations that have something to tell about it. Like the Semper Oper, which offers guided tours - also for kids (I would recommend for families); Zwinger with its science exebition; beautiful rebuild Frauenkirche with its catacombs etc.
But also "die Neustadt" with many culinary restos, the art district, the Elbufer - especially in summer. As well as the many hiking trails, Bastei Bridge, many castles like Moritzburg or Königstein Fortress (take at least 5h for that. it also hold a museum)
There were many more things to see, which we could not cover. So, a good reason to go back soon.

Although I have travelled to other parts of Germany, I had never seen Dresden. It is a remarkable city! I parked at the underground garage at the Frauenkirche, which was centrally located to many of the points of interest. I visited the Fuerstenzug, which is the Procession of Princes, created on tiles. So impressive! I toured the Palace. Make sure you get the complete ticket that takes you through the Green Vault. Amazing jewelry and priceless artifacts. Walking around, it's architectural overload! Also, don't miss going into Camondas Chocolate Store!
Modern, comfortable and clean. Contemporary interior design. Good parking in the basement, large spaces and well lit. The hotel has a section of the car park (34 spaces) immediately at the bottom of the entrance ramp. If this is full then parking on the street is possible (anx much cheaper) on the quiet street in front of the hotel.
The location is very good about 10 minutes walk to the old town and city centre. The hotel does not have a restaurant but provides a small range of bar snacks/meals eg pizza.
I definitely recommend this place. A funky, colorful hotel in Dresden’s hipster area. Nice rooms with coffee machine and kettle. Very friendly and helpful English-speaking staff. Unloading luggage was easy as they have their own loading bay with space for at least 3 cars. Overnight parking in the nearby shopping center was very reasonably priced. Area seems to come alive after 11am when most of the cute artisan shops along the hotel’s street open. Great coffee shops and restaurants around. Loved it!!
This apartment is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood near the old town. It has two bedrooms, two baths, two balconies, a living area, a dining area, and a well-equipped kitchen. All facilities work well (I mean “real” electronic cook top, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, etc). A couple or a small family can easily reside here comfortably for a long stay.
We had a good time at Dresden, and the apartment was certainly one of the key reasons.
Incredible location in the historic area of beautiful Dresden. The room was lovely; well set out, gorgeous amenities and pillows to die for! I slept really well and awoke every morning to young music students busking in the street below. The hotel bar was super, and the lobby was welcoming and comfortable. The wellness area in the old cellars was fabulous and I enjoyed a spa treatment. The Hyperion had just the right amount of luxury whilst also feeling comfortable.
Spacious and clean. Windows can be opened for ventilation. Well equipped kitchen.
Within walking distance to many attractions and huge mall.
Reception staff were friendly. A guy who checked in me took efforts to explain details to me. This was my first international travel ever since the pandemic and felt great to meet such nice staff in Germany. Thumbs up!
Location to Dresden HBF is only a short streetcar ride away. Location in the center of major sights is key, esp. in the winter. Easy to walk over the river, too. All walkable in Dresden. Saunas were an added benefit, esp. in the cold of winter. Hotel staff very helpful with printing museum tickets - thank you!
It’s got all the comforts of home. I sent a message for information before we arrived and received it the next day. Right off the tram lines so easy to get to the shopping of Dresden. The property is always clean and breakfast is premium. We come to Dresden often and always stay at this fine Hotel.
The hotel is the perfect location to visit all of the fabulous sights and restaurants of Dresden. It is located at the edge of the old town square. We had an executive suite which was fantastic. Very quiet with a wonderful bed. The staff was outstanding. We will be staying there in the future.
A cosy hotel just next to Dresden Mitte station (you can watch trains from the room, a cool option for railway fans), 10 minutes walk from historical Old Town. Nicely furnished rooms & bathrooms, very tasty breakfast buffet, very helpful reception staff. Perfect spot for sightseeing and chillout
Location (close enough to walk into Dresdens old town, public transport directly in front of hotel) presented breakfast, rooms with great views towards the Elbe. Access to small kitchenette with kettle, fridge, cutlery, microwave. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Inconspicuous hotel right next to the Dresden Old Town. Looks like a block of flats, but inside there are spacious renovated rooms, really good breakfest with a variety to chose from and most importantly - its location is terrific. Well recommended!
Premier Inn hotel is very conveniently located in Dresden… very close walk to the city center and river. All amenities available in the rooms. Comfortable bed and great value. We would stay here again. Highly recommended.
Convenient location (close to Dresden attractions, lots of stores and restaurants nearby), clean and spacious room, discounted parking right at the hotel, easy check in/out process.
Excellent location, at the Market Place in old town Dresden. In walking distance to major sites and attractions. Spacious room with great view to the city. First class breakfast.
