Puerto montt is a beatifull city and small but it works as a harbor and from here you can visit so many interesting areas.
overall the region is like a 7 days trip and even 2 weeks if you want to see all.

the city is a good base or starting point to explore the region. The city itself is unremarkable in my view but is close to a lot of amazing places: Peulla, Petrohue, Cochamo, Chiloe island, Puerto Varas, Vicente Perez national park, Puerto Varas, Puerto Octay...
The city center can be unsafe at night. I recommend move only with day light or ask for a taxi in your hotel.

The best place to stay in that area is Puerto Varas.
The best place to stay in that area is Puerto Varas. All the excursions will pick you up there. Also, get on a transfer taxi ( shared mini- bus) from and to Puerto Varas - just outside the Puerto Montt airport. Will drop and pick you at your hotel. Also, you can get on a local bus in Puerto Varas by yourself to visit the Petrohue Waterfalls and then get back on the same bus to go to Lake Todos os Santos for a half hour navigation. It is fun to do what locals do. In Puero Varas I recommend Druma restaurant. Lively, locals and soft sound track. Also, they have gluten free food.

Puerto Montt is a good opportunity to see a mid-size Chilean city unspoiled and unvarnished by tourism. However, if you are not into a gritty city full of real locals don’t brother. We had a fantastic dinner at Club Aleman.

This place is full of possibilities (trips etc.)
This place is full of possibilities (trips etc.) Problem is,that everything is completely booked +there are no cars for rental. So it's very complicated to do anything (even to get into the restaurant you have to wait a que for quite a long time), everywhere is checking of everything (masks+ temperature+ vaccination) and it's time consuming.

Puerto Montt has a nice beach area and you can get day tours...
Puerto Montt has a nice beach area and you can get day tours from there; however, I would recommend staying in Puerto Varas instead. It's a more charming town set up better for tourists. You can get the same day tours from there. It's about a 25 minute bus ride from Puerto Montt. We enjoyed eating above the bus station and Hotel Ibis that has a food court and overlooks the harbor.
The best day tour was Volcano Osorno including the waterfall Pueyhuehue.
My son and I had a wonderful time staying with Andrea and her husband. We rented the yellow house which was right on the water. The accomodation was spacious, very cute and perfect for us. I had a bedroom and ensuite upstairs, my son the room downstairs with his own bathroom. The kitchen was small but adequate and the fact that Andrea supplied breakfast each day made it easy to self cater. Situated in a very picturesque setting it was a perfect base to explore the lakes district of Chile. A car was essential.
A nice hostel which is a short walk from the central plaza of Puerto Montt and about 20 minutes from the main bus station. The rooms were standard hostel rooms, with a locker for each guest. Bathrooms were nice and clean. The staff were very attentive to make sure all my needs were met, including towels, power extension for phone charging, and showing me how to use the kitchen to make myself breakfast as I had to leave very early in the morning.
Most of the staff were very nice and warm. Breakfast was ok as a Buffet; it was varied but there were not many options in each category.
Everywhere you could look at in the hotel was very clean, spotless I would say.
Also, kudos to Priscilla from Front Desk. Thanks for arranging us a tour service.
Overall, it is just as it is offered in description and photos here.
Andrea and Estefan were wonderful hosts! They took our reservation with very short notice and greeted us with hugs hot tea and wonderful conversation. They were an amazing help with providing us information on travel in Chile and booking our Ferry down south. Would definitely stay there again, and hope to return someday.
Very close to the airport. Excellent option if you rent a car and travel across this region. Ideal option if you travel with children's since it has a separate room with two separate beds. Spacy, cozy, good internet connection, all necessary facilities including washing machine. Nice host!
Very close to airport. We only stayed 1 night, however could easily have stayed longer. Very nice cabin, with 2 bedrooms, little kitchen and lounge. Good internet, tv and heating. Friendly staff.
comfy (but slightly outdated) hotel in the hart of Puerto Montt with excellent panoramic views from restaurant. we paid extra for the breakfast and that was fulfilling. free underground parking!
This little cottage was like a home from home. The hostess was really friendly and helpful. She was willing to organise a pickup from the airport and food for this self contained cottage.
Nice hotel located in the centre of town. The restaurant was good. We had a very nice staff member who spoke excellent English. This is always very welcoming for a non-Spanish speaker.
This property was adorable. A tiny house on the water south of Puerto Montt. Our hostess was great. We reserved late; she met us very quickly and was most helpful!
The staff were helpful and kind. Location was pretty good, 30min from airport. Lots of local restaurants and walking areas. But really not much else to do here.
