The house was very comfortable, clean and spacious. The hosts were very generous with provisions and the house contained everything that could be needed for a couple such as ourselves or a larger family. The combustion heater was fantastic and warmed all areas we needed. The location near key wineries that you could walk to was a bonus. Penola was a short drive to get any other shopping. Would highly recommend.

Penola is a lovely country town where you could spend a few days sightseeing. We were there for a wedding and only spent a short time in the town. We would have liked to had time to browse in the shops, such as the antique shop and check out the beautiful old homes in the township and visit some of the wineries. You could also spend time in Naracoorte sightseeing the caves which is not too far to travel from Penola.

Pipers Restaurant in Penola was excellent, a first-class place to eat with great service. Penola is right on the doorstep of the Coonawarra wine region, renowned for its red wine, however the whites and rose are excellent too.

A lovely little historical town full of warm and welcoming people. Petticoat Lane is full of historical history and the original cottages from the early settlers are just a wonderful window into the past

Is a lovely little country town in the heart of the Coonawarra wine district. It has a quaint main street with a couple of pubs. A nice mix of historical and modern buildings in a picturesque setting. Whilst we were there it was a good mix of cold nights perfect for sipping wine around a fire and warm days for visiting local wineries. There was a nice amount of shops and cafes to spend an afternoon in. The local pub The Royal Oak was a beautiful pub and the meal and wine we had there was excellent. It had a great atmosphere and was very close to our accommodation. We were originally just passing through on our way to Adelaide but we enjoyed it so much that we changed our plans and went there again on our way home. We found Penola the perfect stop over for the trip from Geelong to Adelaide but plan to add an extra day to our future trips to enjoy this lovely town and its surroundings.

Everyone warm and welcoming. Clean. Great public toilets! Fab staff in Info Centre. Loved the museum and gallery at Info Centre. Good food options. Good supermarket. Short drive to vineyards and wineries. Historic areas well signed. Lots of parks and green spaces. Light traffic so eady tovwalk around. Loved the Royal Oak Hotel and Vintage Cafe. Great guft and clithing stores. Felt very safe (we are in our 70’s).

Penola is a little piece of Burgundy nestled in the Coonawarra near the border of SA and Vic. The arrangement is so similar, with tightly packed wineries scattered along the main road north and south of the town - too many to see and taste all at once. Multiple trips are definitely required, and the heritage value of the town itself is compelling, with the history of Australia's only catholic saint beautifully presented at the MacKillop Interpretive Centre, and other preserved heritage buildings and infrastructure for one of the earliest established towns in South Australia.
Based in the centre of Penola, the accommodation was ideally located for shops, pubs and restaurants.
The apartment to the host's living quarters, so they were close by and nothing was too much trouble for them to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
The hosts also run a day's wine tour in the Coonawarra Region, so we went out for the day with them. It was a a highly informative and enjoyable day.
A very comfy room with everything you need including a breakfast which was provided in the fridge. Comfy beds, a large shower and bathroom, very quite but in a central place. Close to shops and the Hotel, where we enjoyed dinner. Check in was easy and a lovely lady provided us with a perfect service and information.
Fantastic cottage with all the amenities we could ask for and more. Lovely and cozy space that not only accepted but welcoming for dogs - had a great sized yard out front for our little one to stretch her legs in. Dee was an incredible host and we'd recommend anyone to stay when in the area.
Great place to stop on our way to Adelaide from Port Fairy; amazing spa bath; great parking; short walk to cafes and pub for a delicious dinner; easy access to Coonawarra wine region; nice small garden where we were able to sit and enjoy a glass of wine before the rain came through!
Delightful historic cottage in a fabulous central position in Penola.
It's old, very comfortable and charming - don't expect vast panels of glass and marble this is a really memorable experience.
Spotlessly clean, very functional kitchen and a nice selection of breakfast items.
Very comfortable room. The location is excellent 10 mins to the Coonawarra, 30 mins to Mt Gambier about the same to Naracoorte and about 2 hours to Kingston SE for fresh Cray fish. Also only a 10 minute walk to the Penola town center
Super clean, comfortable and homey cottage. Location is superb, a few minutes walk to al things on the main street. Breakfast groceries provided by the host so we could cook ourselves brekky to start the day.

Wonderful small and charming motel. Very large and clean rooms. Excellent location right next to a grocery store and walking distance to the few restaurants in town.
A great location in town, walking distance to the pubs, restaurant and cafe. Only a short drive to the excellent wineries of Coonawarra. Will stay hear again.
Conveniently located in Penola walking distance to main street. Friendly owners and refurbished rooms made it a comfortable country motel. As we expected.
Great location and Joyce is an excellent host. Penola is an ideal place to explore with lots of historic buildings and very close the Coonawarra wineries.
