The pool and breakfast fantastic! We have started before and we’re looking forward to the hot tub but it was under maintenance. They upgraded out mr Room to One with a jacuzzi tub! The front desk gave great local recommendations to try

Retro Inn at Mesa Verde, hotel in Cortez

Boasting a terrace, BBQ facilities and views of mountain, Retro Inn at Mesa Verde is situated in Cortez, 15 km from Mesa Verde National Park Visitor Center.

The decor is very old fashioned and needs updating😉 Joking besides, the retro fixtures and fittings make this a really fun place to stay; nostalgic even for those who remember it all first time around. Retro for sure, but everything is clean and tidy and works perfectly, with the exception, ironically, of the wifi! All in all though, a gem of a find, and highly recommended.

This is a sleepy town without any real attractions where everything closes early even on weekend nights. However, I can strongly recommend the WildEdge brew pub, both for its beers and the live music (though also closing at 9 pm). The Canyons of the Ancients and adjacent pueblo ruins North of Cortes are well worth visiting.

A very nice town of about 9000 people, a very clean town with some awesome eateries. Lounging Lizard I highly recommend as well as Beny's Diner for breakfast. Wish I had more time to explore this little gem of a town. Very easy to get around.

Cortez is a cute little town. Friendly people and a variety of restaurants and fast food facilities. Not sure I would avoid any part of Cortez. Close to the 4 Corners attraction as well as Mesa Verde.

    Cortez is a convenient location.

Cortez is a convenient location. We went to Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley, Canyonlands and Arches National Park, and Telluride from there. Arches National Park closes for a few hours if too crowded so it's recommended to get there early.

My hubby picked up tacos at a local Mexican restaurant in Cortez and they were quite good. Cortez is a small town, so navigating around town is very easy. Next time, I would most likely look for a cabin in the mountains for lodging.

They put on a great fireworks display!

They put on a great fireworks display! It was awesome to see the locals very appreciative of the display, also. This town is less than 20 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park. Not sure if it was the area or the fact that it was the 4th of July but there was more drug & police activity than we are used to(we are from Northern Colorado). If you need ice for your cooler, don't waste your time going anywhere but to the Safeway and they have very nice cashiers to boot!

The breakfast at the Retro Inn was fantastic. A lot of the usual choices like yogurt, fruit & cereal, but the best was a green chili tamale! Amazing! The breakfast area was kept very clean, as was our room. The staff was very helpful, giving us excellent advice on where to go to dinner as well as where to get our tire fixed. The hotel is decorated in a fun manner with decor of the 60's and 70's.

The property was amazing. The location was great, being close to Cortez but also isolated enough to be private and rustic. The host has paid great attention to detail in the furnishings (both interior & exterior) and was very thorough in the supplies available, and she explains how everything works very well. The place was very clean and cozy. We would have liked to have stayed longer.

There are many options nearby for hotels. This facility and room were very nice and clean. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast options were varied and kept stocked. There was an additional crock-pot of "Chili Stew" which I know as Chili Verde (this one had potatoes added) that we especially liked. Access in and out was easy, even towing the trailer.

Any time we come thru Cortez we stay here. The best part is the bed. It’s the most comfortable mattress we have ever stayed on in a motel. The sheets are always clean and smell like home. The pillows are perfect. We are older and after a 7-8 hour drive our bodies hurt. But we sleep so well we can continue on our long drive the next morning.

The hostess was really friendly, easy check in, flexible. I knew what to expect by reading reviews and looking up the pictures. Room looked as described and for a place to sleep / rest it was perfect. Near to many restauraunts if needed and felt safe enough. Coffee maker in the room and mini fridge.

This was like home, a true MOTEL, like ones I've stayed in, in years past. Clean, everything worked, & I still REALLY like being able to back my car up outside my own door. Hotel manager was great, and everything was just NICE. A total PLEASURE.
