Charming small town, slightly off the tourist beaten track, this isn’t a bad thing! Plenty of temples to visit. Relatively easy to walk to all the main sights. People are very friendly. Some lovely places to eat in the town. There is a rooftop bar at one of the hostels which is a real hidden gem.

You don’t need more than 2 days here. We took the train from Bangkok and arrived around 3pm. Checked into our hotel and hung out. Then the next day we did a full day tour which our host set up for us and then we left the following day. I take photographs of wildlife, monkeys and monks, temples and people. So Phetchaburi kept me occupied for 16 days - I can't understand why so few people get off the train. It is just the right size to walk around, although Thanyachatra is just off a busy road that is not very easy to cross (but no traffic nose at the hotel). The locals are wonderful and once they had got used to seeing me around, I found that those who spoke English were keen to chat and helpful. The town is full of wonderful schools and happy, smiling and beautifully turned out children and teenagers.ChrisFrance - 10Scored 10

It’s my first time there ppl are so nice , the city is very clean if you love dessert it’s one of the place in Thailand that you have to check it out . I’ll be back in Nov with my daughter can’t wait to show her around .

We had our own little balcony with a nice view. We were given free water and fresh towels every day. The host was so welcoming and kind, we would definitely come back here. She organised Tuctucs for us and helped planning our onwards travels to Bangkok. When we wanted to rent a motorbike, she called someone that brought us one right to the doorstep. We had a large ensuite room which worked well for us. The young woman who always seemed to be on duty was very friendly and helpful. It was a very good price and this included breakfast. Phetchaburi is a great place to experience smaller town Thai life - away from the tourists! If you search around the centre you can find some cool bars and restaurants.

The old wooden traditional house is extremely authentic and reminded us of the Jim Thompson Museum in Bangkok but without the antiquities.
