A great selection of herbal teas, coffee, hot chocolate etc. Freshly baked delicious blueberry muffins and chocolate on our arrival. Exceptionally clean. Lovely surroundings peaceful and quiet. We had a family unit which turned out to be a separate building with four bedrooms. It was huge. Quite basic, but great value.

We had the Villa to ourselves and it was my dream house full of old world comfort and charm. The fire was on when we arrived and it was so homely. The setting was in a magical place, a real rural retreat with stunning scenery. We lit the fire in the lounge room on our second day and spent an idyllic day reading and chatting by the fire. The clawfoot bath was wonderful, the breakfast scrumptious and the hosts David and Sue were most welcoming and interesting to talk to. We truly loved it.

This is a historic gem. Beautifully restored with period features intact. It was peaceful and the dawn chorus of the magpies was beautiful.
I recommend the books about the history of the family and the property.
The bathroom with a big deep enamel bath was bliss.

It was great to be staying at a rural B&B in such an attractive location. The host Leah was very welcoming and has obviously added personal touches of her own. Home baking and preserves are always welcome! We would love to return for a longer stay

Taihape is a quaint quiet country town. The locals are a friendly lot and like to have a chat. I didn’t venture out much during my 2 days there but when I did,it was relatively easier to find my way around. The only disappointment I had was there was only one takeaways open in the afternoon/evening.(Chinese),fortunately New Worlds is handy.

It was a great place to stop for the night. We had takeaways for dinner. Visited the giant gumboot at night - the spotlights were on and the kids loved it. We had breakfast at Brown Sugar, which was nice. Then we were on our way to the rest of our holiday.

A lovely little old town which we usually transit at on our way down south.
The little town has all sorts of amenities including good supermarket and a few good cafes with at least two very good restaurants as well. There are a number of motels within the town and situated along the main highway. There are two large petrol stations, including one large BP petrol station.
We believe that Taihape may also be a stop for the main-line Auckland to Wellington Railway... there is certainly quite a large railway station at the top of the town.

Taihape is a lovely place to take family and participate in the gumboot throwing and picnics in the park. Swimming in Rangitikei river is amazing your family will love it too. It has everything you need like New World, Mobil gas station and a Mac Donalds for the grand children. The ranges and the landscape is deep and rich with so much history.
The Coachman has been a favourite of my wife and I over many many years whenever we travel North from Wellington. We have always found the motel friendly and operated by helpful staff. Close to town. We were very pleased to see that the great old 'Gumboot Manor Restaurant' which had closed some time ago, has found new ownership and re-opened as a great looking restaurant under a new name. It is only a couple of minutes walk from the Coachman
Thoughtful touches like the little packet of soaps on each bed. The lovely variety of healthy food for breakfast. Night light in the bathroom. Lovely warm apartment when we arrived. Jan provided recommendation for a fantastic florist Blush in Taihape who delivered a gorgeous bunch of flowers for my birthday girl. Easy to find. Well signed. Easy parking. Private.
My Mum and I stayed at Hopwood as a halfway point driving from Wellington to Hamilton and it was exactly what we needed. Peacefully rural but just 10 mins from the main road with all the food options. Super clear and tidy, all the amenities we needed and lovely hosts to greet us on arrival. This will definitely be my go to for all future travel through Taihape.

Thank you Moria.
We stayed 2 nights at the Aspen and we absolutely enjoyed every minute. Lovely staff and the rooms were so clean the first thing we said was “wow this place smells clean!”
Recommend this place highly if you plan to stay in Taihape.
The White House has a pretty “garden room” with a view looking out over Taihape. There are comfortable chairs to sit in. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are comfortable. Tne heat pump keeps the cottage cosy and warm.
Booked this for my son driving up from the South Island, after coming over on the ferry. Got to Hotel late and left early. Staff were great about leaving a key out and it was just what he needed after a day of driving.
We loved everything in our stay here!
The design felt like a boutique hotel,
The breakfast was great,
Having a tv nook allowed us to finally enjoying tv from the sofa and not from the phone as we are the the road.
The room was absolutely huge! Everything was clean and easy to use. We had to change plans at the last minute due to road closures to Napier, and this hotel was available. Right next to a very good restaurant.
Situated on the hill above Taihape it is an interesting drive up the hill. Moira sent us excellent directions. The view did not disappoint. The beds were super comfortable. A lovely quiet place to stay.
Well above average for a small town motel. Good kitchenette. Comfortable with friendly and helpful manager. Taihape was surprisingly interesting place for what was for us just a highway stop.
