Oak Lodge, hotel in Moana

Housed in a refurbished farmhouse, Oak Lodge offers country-style rooms and the option of freshly prepared breakfasts. Providing free Wi-Fi, it features a tennis court and a spa pool.

Breakfast was great, lots of fresh locally grown produce of which the host Robin was quite proud. The room was large and easy to keep warm. We had a balcony room with a view of the surrounding mountains and sheep grazing adjacent to the property. Robin gave us good tips on things to see.

Village in a beautiful setting near native forest park and overlooking Lake Brunner. A small number of occupied original houses and lots of new modern holiday homes that would likely be busy in the Summer water-skiing season. Neat historic railway buildings. A great place to stop on the Tranzscenic with a couple of good places to eat overlooking the lake. Beautiful short bush walks nearby.

It is a wonderful spot and surprisingly didn't cost the earth. We ate in the Lodge and the food was excellent. The lodge and the owners are wonderful. There is a short length of unpaved road to get to the lodge but don't let that deter you. It passes quickly and just adds to its charm.

Nice and quiet before Christmas, afterwards gets very busy with holiday makers, good walking tracks around the area. Great place if you have a boat, water skiing etc. Greymouth is only 25 minutes away if you need to go to a supermarket i.e. Countdown and New World. There is a convenience store (On the Spot) on the outskirts of Moana.

What I liked best, was a significant contributor to almost the worst aspect of my stay in Moana. The air was clear, the lake was pristine, the walks were easy going. There were no problems experienced jostling for space with other visitors on the lakefront or walks; and the food was great. The negative side to those superlatives was the cost of food and drink, and being unable to make easy contact with activity operators, such as being able to book a cruise on the lake. By the time this was sorted (it took almost 24hrs) there was not enough time left to then obtain a conveniently timed booking. It would have been great to have a specific, well signed, location where drone photographers could launch and fly their UAS, for videographic purposes, under Part 101 of NZ CAA rules.

The location was excellent. We could see the lake from our room. Our room was dated - not surprisingly. Kitchenette supplies were interesting, eg not enough large plates or regular glasses for 4, 2 sets of salt and pepper. Our dinner and breakfast were amazing, and we were served pretty quickly even though the dining room was full. The staff were friendly and helpful. We took several walks close to the hotel

The room was impeccably clean and had everything we needed. Just outside of Moana so nice and peaceful. The shower pressure was crazy good. Parking right outside our room. Plenty of food for a continental breakfast which was restocked each day! Fantastic value for money. We will definitely be back to stay again.

We had a nice meal at the restaurant and the staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant was cozy and warm and had a quirky atmosphere. There were a good selection of wines. There was handy close parking by our room. The room was spacious and quiet and the bed was comfy. Moana has some lovely bush walks.

Two rooms - wanted them close together - parents in 1 kids in other. One room was in Motel other was hotel - 200m apart. Motel room is fine. Son in Hotel room wore his clothes in bed as said it was cold - no heater (only April) - so could be really chilly mid-winter. Hotel food pretty good.
