The place is full of flies during the days and then mosquitos at night. The streets are terrible, made from broken stones and sand/cement, except for the tarmac main through road, which, as a result, is constantly busy or at a standstill. Cars cannot drive above 10mph in the side streets, hence the main road congestion.
The Lake seems polluted and nobody swims in there.
It's a boring little town, best avoided.
The only saving grace is there are lots of trees, and the have a very healthy aversion to cutting them down, even if this means building outbuildings and patio structures incorporating them. See the pictures below.

We loved the church bells ringing and the song birds singing. We weren’t so fond of the dogs barking in the night.
We loved the restaurants and the friendly people
but didn’t like the cobblestones underfoot or the dog poop left on the sidewalks.
We liked walking around the lake but noticed there wasn’t a lot of activity on the lake.
A big draw to Ajijic is the cost of living which is lower than in the coastal areas of Mexico. There is also the Chapala Society that offers programs to get involved with if you are staying a month or longer in Ajijic.

Ajijic is a strange place.
Ajijic is a strange place. Almost nothing to do for recreation other than walk around the town and eat. There are many good restaurants, but it would be nice to have some recreation options. Maybe we were there too early in the season in early Feb. The weather was cool-ish: Hi's in the high 70's, Lo's in the low 50's. Very, very dry. Did I say very dry? Great for sleeping and walking around. Really the only "recreation" we had was the heated swimming pool at our hotel. This was crucial. Our hotel was on the edge of the main town, and a 10 minute walk to the waterfront. It was very picturesque, but frankly kind of boring. A week is too long to stay in this town. 3 nights would probably be sufficient.

Ajijic was everything I expected from all the things I had read about it. Beautiful area. Lots of Americans, Europeans, and Canadians so that even though my Spanish was extremely limited, there were people everywhere to communicate with. Also many of the locals speak some English.

People were so friendly and helpful;. The weather was wonderful.
There were so many really good restraunts. Everything was so nice that we returned another time and stayed at the same place. The owner, Elizabeth, is a truly classy lady, just like Casa del Sol. We have tried to book for a 3rd visit, but the B&B is so sold out...no surprise...Everyone wants to wake up to the wonderful breakfast served by the friendly staff.
The most special thing about the property was Bethany. We landed on a day when she was hosting the first monthly artist’s presentation made by visiting artists. We were so lucky. Bethany’s energy and enthusiasm carried the day, the artists were world class. A stopover (Ajijic) on the way to somewhere else has no risen to top of our list for relocation, and we’ll be sure to try to schedule in order to be here for the artist’s event the next time we return.
The hotel is conveniently located a couple of blocks away from the main drive, The Carretera. It is private, quiet, well maintained with an exceptional staff who went out of their way to help me. When it was time to leave they called an Uber for me. They were exceptionally pleasant, friendly, cleaned the room as I requested and made great breakfasts. All in all, I could not have asked for more.
Breakfast every morning was very good. The receptionist was very accommodating - she even supplied me with a hair dryer and a steamer for my clothes. Plenty of hanging space for clothing. The wait staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel had an art show in the lobby on a Sunday that featured local artists. In the evening, they brought in several singers/musicians and was great fun.
Very quaint hotel with lots of charm. The room was very comfortable and clean. Elizabeth and staff were amazing. They helped with everything from reservations to taxi rides. Breakfast was also amazing - generous portions made to order and the bar has great margaritas. I definitely recommend Casa del Sol Inn to anyone heading to Ajijic.
We loved this place. Our beautiful bungalow was right next to the water. Very clean and very quiet. Staff were professional and attentive to all our needs. I highly recommend this property if your looking for a quiet place to recharge. It’s away from everything but still close enough, only a 5-10 minute drive to either Ajijic or Chapala.
Due to an air bnb fail, we had to quickly book another place in Ajijic. Casa Blanca was extremely accommodating and even moved us to a new room at no charge on the second day because we needed a refrigerator.
The staff were awesome and assisted in many ways, including laundry services.
Rooms are run down, pool is filthy, service is non-existent.
The place looks like an abandoned hotel, they need to spend a fortune on the place to get it up to standard. There a few places like this nearby that have given up. This place will be next. The photos are BS
The location of the hotel is perfect for me. It is near two of my favorite restaurants. The room was lovely, it had a enormous bathtub and the bed was a king and very comfortable. This suite also had a great refrigerator and kitchen facilities.
Our room was bright, spacious and comfortable, with balcony and its windows that brought in lovely light. This is probably my favorite place I've stayed in Ajijic. Perfect location, lovely owner and staff. I will stay again!!!
Beautiful setting in tropical gardens, big pool and spacious very comfortable room (with large sofa, coffee machine etc). Friendly staff. 15mins walk into Ajijic for restaurants and a small town with great character.
The hotel is new and right in the heart of town. The staff is friendly and accommodating to us non Spanish speaking tourists. Great food and French pressed coffee in the morning. Who could ask for more?
Such a beautiful hotel will definitely be going back! The bed was very comfortable and the room was beautiful photos don’t do it justice!
Everything is walking distance from the hotel!
We enjoyed the view. The pool area has a beautiful view to the lake and the surroundings, the food is good. We ordered a pizza and it was deliciuos. The hotel offers free wifi.
The location was safe and in a good place and the breakfast was very good. The staff was excellent. The mountain trails a short but steep walk from the hotel was spectacular.
