Hotel was located in very green area, with palms, surrounded by nature, 200m from the beach Very tasty breakfast ( fruits, coffee, tea, fresh juice, all kinds of eggs, bread, sweets, marmalade, Sri Lankan breakfast option as well) was served next to the garden, in very relaxing, calm area. Rooms were clean, always with warm water, modest but nicely decorated. Staff was super friendly, helpful, smiled, always supportive. We highly recommend the hotel.

I've been to Unawatuna 4 times/years and that beautiful place changes for worse.
There is new oversized monster-hotel, water scooters, loud music, fireworks, higher prices...
In last 2 years 90% of tourists are Russians - some restaurants are only in russian.
Most likely, I am not going back.

Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand.
Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand. The part of the beach where I visited, the ocean gets quite deep very fast, and the waves seem to cary you in quite easily. I haven't seen any lifeguards or flags that would indicate the wave's condition, but local people were very kind to give information.
If you like hiking, the city has a nice trail to a beach called Jungle beach. Trough the same trail, you can pass by the Japanese Peace Pagoda, and if you are lucky you might see monkeys and lizards. The trail is more or less 40 min one way.
The restaurants from the hotels are very much on the coast, sometimes seems to close from the beach. But the food quality is good and affordable, and lots of these restaurants offer alcohol.
I stayed one day in Unawatuna and it felt enough time to discover what the city has to offer.

I heard that this used to be a great beach.
I heard that this used to be a great beach. Unfortunately I do not think it is today. Very exploited and there are many beach places renting out sunbeds. They can get away with having (very) crappy toilets because there are new tourists every day, they do not need a good review.
Having dinner on the beach was a strange experience, started out good but then a large company came and occupied the space next to us, ordering champagne, oysters and lobsters like there was no tomorrow, and we were forgotten about.
There are plenty of other beaches in Sri Lanka that are much better.
Everything was amazing. The staff will do everything they can to help you out. We had an amazing dinner at restaurant (one of the best meal we had in our 3 weeks in Sri Lanka) and the natural pool in front of the hotel where we were able to swin with turtles in the morning.
Breakfast was also good and you could choose between Sri Lankan breakfast or a continental one.
If you are nearby, don't bother looking anymore. This place is awesome and you will spend a great time here!
What a peaceful location! One of the best stays of my whole Sri Lanka trip. It is hosted by a local family. They have very cute 2 dogs. Very friendly.
Nearby to railway station, bus station and just 20 mins walk from Unawatuna Beach. Jungle beach is bit far if you want to walk but if you are taking a tuktuk or a bike, then it's just 10 mins away. If you want a budget stay around Galle, then this is the best one. Galle is just 15 mins away if you take a bus or tuktuk.
Kaju Green was my last stop of my Sri Lanka trip and truly the best way to end an adventurous time; it was the perfect spot to calm down and relax. The premises are a true dream if you are a nature and animal lover. The lodge promotes a sustainable lifestyle and you will definitely feel connected to nature.
Ruwan and the team are amazing, they will make sure you feel taken care of and they are there to support you in any needs. Will definitely come back.

The hosts were so accommodating after meeting her I feel like I have a friend in Sri Lanka whenever I come back. the Wi-Fi was excellent as I’m addicted to my social media. I was happy that I was able to always post and watch movies. The space was really clean and everything in the room was thoughtful done. I love the swiming pool!!!! The location was perfect and close everything I needed and places I wanted to go.
This is a great location. Close to the train station and bus stop. And only 10 mins walk to the beach, bars and restaurants. No noise as the rooms are away from the Galle road. The breakfasts were excellent and we also ate in the restaurant in the evening on a number of occasions. Both the food and service were 1st class. The period features of the reception are a welcome change to modern hotels in Sri Lanka.
This hotel is very nice and cozy with beautiful decor, spaceous rooms. Breakfast is delicious, it is an open buffet, with fruits and local treats. Hotel manager was very helpful and met all our requests. Hotel is situated in a very quiet neighbourhood but in a short walking distance from the beach. We would definately come back to this hotel if we return to Unawatuna.
Spacious villa for our family of 4, right at the pool that is not used much, so almost private. 10 mins walk to the beach, but we didnt like the beach here. Very small, crowded, rough sea. Better go 10 mins extra by tuktuk to Kogalla. Galle is close by which is a nice city. Breakfast is ok. Some small shops on walking distance and you can buy a beer at the hotel.
This accommodation is the best we've experienced in Sri Lanka. The rooms are clean, stylish and you can see an attention to details which is often missing in other places. The breakfast is very good and you can choose from a wide selection. It has a beautiful garden, it's like having a mini jungle next to your room. Close to the beach, restaurants and shops.
The location was excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast very good and Sri Lankan also, private cooks preapred us on order special meats for lunch or dinner ( curry, fish, seefood) - everything really yummy; private beach with its own sunbeds und umbrellas; turtles in the sea and sometimes on the beach, nice garden with coconut palms...
Fab location, right at the top of the Main Street in Unawatuna and about 8/9 minutes from the beach. Also above a coffee shop that served some of the best coffee I had on my trip to Sri Lanka! Very clean and spacious rooms with big balcony’s and nice bathrooms. The staff were so kind and welcoming and did all our washing for very cheap. Great hotel.
Our host was amazing - Extremely helpful and friendly. The ocean view from our room was beautiful. We also had the luxury of walking straight onto the beach, from the property gardens. The staff was very attentive and helpful too. Superb value for money. I’d recommend to anyone wanting to visit Unawatuna/Sri Lanka beaches.
This hotel was absolutely beautiful. Perfect for a relaxing end to our tour of Sri Lanka!! We’d spent a week touring the hill country (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella) and this pristine boutique hotel was the perfect place to relax on the beach to finish our trip!
The place was beautiful and full of history. It's got a great vibe and the staff was very courteous and friendly. Very close to both unawatuna beach and also jungle beach (within walking distance). The food at the hotel was amazing as well.
It was one of the most well-conditioned and clean hotel I saw on Sri Lanka. Nice room, a lot of space. Extremely friendly hosts 😊 they almost everyday asked us what did we want for the breakfast. My recommendation!
Great hotel at the quieter end of Unawatuna Beach. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was good. The small infinity pool with loungers on the roof is a great place to watch the sunset or swim if the sea is too rough.
Our favorite hotel in Sri Lanka: extremely clean, spacious rooms, modern outlook and style. Also ideally located as you just need to cross the street to get to the beach. Staff was incredibly friendly.
Nice place for one or two days stay. Close to bus station and the beach. The hotel has generator that is very convenient during turns off the the light as common practice in Sri Lanka.
Staff were the most friendly people ever!! Breakfast was delicious. Perfect little spot away from the hustle & bustle of Unawatuna felt like Sri Lanka which the beach didn’t.
The Sri Lankan food at the hotel was great. Authentic and delicious. The beach access at the front was perfect for our 1 sunny morning. Cute and quiet spot.
