This is an absolute gem. Clean, very cheap, friendly and well maintained. We had a large room with a wrap around balcony with pool, garden and sea views. The owners went above and beyond. Wifi was excellent.

    Nature. Natural food. Luckily, not too many tourists yet, and it is not too crowded like in other parts of the island (e.g., in Merissa.)Avoid Matara city itself - it's crowded. Look for places nearby, where Google View shows more green color.

    Polhena beach is an excellent place to have a safe swim for a traveller and can see turtles in the sea if you are lucky enough. And can visit Matara light house and Kudawalla water air hole by travelling a bit from Matara which has another nice beach.

    Polhena is a nice village, Matara is a nice city with friendly people. There is lots to do in this area. For example guided snorkling at Polhena Beach where you can really swim with the turtles, a boattrip on the Nilwala Ganga where you can see crocodiles. Or visit the Starfort. A great restaurant in Matara city is Dutchmanstreet restaurant. In Polhena i recommend eating at Sunil Rest, Blue Corals or Reef Edge restaurant. Walking around at night in Polhena... take a stick and flash light with you, the street dogs just had puppys (cute) but their mother instinct gave me the creeps.

    Matara is great transport hub, has fast bus connection with Colombo (via expressway). Also most buses on south pass through Matara. Though it's not a good place to stay longer - crowds, no good beaches, high prices.

    People are so peaceful and feeling safer. Wow!!! I wish they had more pick me like taxi services but all fare and good. Beach need a little extra love from environmental authorities. But it was nice still. Thank you Matara. I love to live in Matara for real. Its so chill out places out there in all of the island . ❤🧡😊

    We stayed at Turtle Eco Beach Hotel.

    We stayed at Turtle Eco Beach Hotel. Olympic or near Olympic length pool, but only two lanes wide. Quite unique. The owners are French as are many of the guests. But so many languages can be heard there. Very family friendly! We traveled back and forth to Polhena Beach (about 1.5 km to the south) for snorkeling daily. (Between 08:00 AM and noon, the water is the clearest.) Sadly, during our stay, the daily low tides coincided with - roughly - that same span of time, so we had to be extra careful to avoid getting scratched up by the coral reef. Our stay was for three days from 15-18 January. We saw sea turtles every day and could even feed them "sea grass" by hand. We ate near the hotel or near Polhena Beach and avoided going into town...

    The treehouse was amazing .. The property is located around nice green trees mini jungle so you can see lot of animals and close to the transport. Bus stop is next to the property . The beach is ininfront just cross the road and good for surfing and swimming .. The host and the family are very nice and friendly.. They are very helpful.     Lovely place in SK Town We loved Guillet beach home hosted by Lucky, with his lovely wife and daughter. Very welcoming, always there to help if we needed anything. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, bigger than shown on the pictures. A/C, hot water, everything you need. The kitchen facilities were perfect, with a fridge and all cookware we needed. They provided us spices. For this honest price you get quality and a calm environment. Thank you Lucky and thanks to your family. 🙏🏻

    Can not rate this place high enough! Jimna the host is probably the nicest person we’ve ever met, he went above and beyond to help us in any way he could plus the accomodation Is beautiful. Absolute water front and a easy stroll to the surf every morning, amazing room and great price. If your looking for a homely feel away from the hustle of the big hotels and resorts this is the place!! Will be recommending this place to everyone that travels to the south of Sri Lanka!     Directly across the road from the beach you can not get anymore central. There is a beach bus restaurant across the road which was super convenient. It is basic so don’t expect anything fancy here. No hot water and okay bed and there is noise from surrounding bars. We just enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a drink watching the world go by!

    Everything was perfect! Especially if you try to escape the bad air of the city and the huge crowds, this is the place to go! There’s a cute little beach 10m next to the hotel and the food is cooked by the family itself. If you come to Sri-Lanka you should definitely not miss this place. Make sure to also walk around the picturesque town!

    Buildings and interiors are very beautifully designed. The manager is very nice. The breakfast is fantastic and the cleaning of the rooms is spotless.     Super welcoming owner, gives free mango juice all the time, free laundry and bicycles to use, really spacious room by the sea, a/c, kitchen where to cook if you like me wanna cook your meals. Near the surf spots. Plenty of sea turtles easy to spot in the lagoon at Polhena beach, nearby. Very recommended!

    The rooms were cosy and comfortable. The hosts were very kind and helpful. They were easy to communicate with. The place is walking distance to Doctors and the madiha beach as well as Polhena beach. It's a small property but they had all the amenities including towels and a mini fridge

    As others have said the best thing about this guest house is the manager. Janaka is a real gentleman and so accommodating. The property itself is a few metres from the beach, through its beachtop restaurant. The rooms are comfy and clean. The stringhopper breakfast is outstanding

    Beautiful location near the beach, awesome people, very good atmosphere. Too bad I couldn't stay longer. I will come back and stay one week next time. There's also this juice bar right next to the homestay. It's lovely! You cannot find a better place in the area.
