Everything!! It was an AMAZING experience. Sleeping almost outside in the middle of the nature is something that everyone should try at least once in a lifetime. We stayed in a tree house, which was very clean for an open space, with nets for keeping monkeys out, very clean bed sheets and towels (not so often in Sri Lanka), excellent food and very good prices for a remote location (full of nature and animals around you). The staff was amazingly warm and helpful with everything. I recommend this place 10000%. For sure will come back here if we will visit Yala again.
Not a location for 5 stars hotel kinda people, otherwise you will love it. Also, we liked that they improved their game, now you can find toiletries and better food (we loved it) so they really take into account the feedback received.
Make sure you understand that this is a safari area so going out of the premises by yourself can be dangerous, so book your lunch and dinner with them as little options are available in the area (we had a car and it was pretty difficult to find a decent lunch place around in the arrival day) -- they will ask you at arrival so you don't need to hustle before.
They offer safari at a good price, also.

The location was beautiful as it’s in the heart of the jungle. There is lots of wildlife and they have very cute puppies which Mira takes wonderful care of. The young man working there was also very nice and helpful. The room we were moved to was wonderful and quite comfortable and private. The next morning they helped arrange a taxi for us which was great as we had a long journey.

I thought it was a different place to go for Safari. But, almost all vehicles come from Tissa for Safari pickup so it doesn't really matter if you book a room in Tissa or Katharagama for the Safari.

Could not see Perahara, we could not stay after 11.30pm.
Could not see Perahara, we could not stay after 11.30pm. If our Hotel room was close Temple we would have come in time of Perahera.
Could not enjoyed the journey, very disappointing since the Room was 2Km away from Kataragama Town and temple , no access to outside choice food , had to starve until we reached KataragamaTown.
Food and items were sold at uncontrollerable price.
For example-Perera and Sons - selling prices below
Fish rolls- 150
Fried Rice - 750/- quantity very less than side plate and a small drum stick piece chicken with least flesh.
Nestea - Rs 120/=
Lunch - Rs 520/= very very small quantity.
All bills are available with me as proof if necessary.
Surprisingly to know a very reputed food caterers such as PERERA And Sons exploiting selling least quantity food at exorbitant prices compared to Colombo prices to Temple Pilgrims visitors, striving to exist due to economic crisis with no though and concerned to the Poor and needy.
At a Pilgrimage area, such as Kataragama, the business rich, could have treated the mo have visitors in a compromise way, selling at reasonably low price or served as Dansal.
Their were visitor sharing an incompletely served fried rice plate some were begging at the entrance.
This is the way GOD FEARING PEOPLE behave in business concerns at Festival period .
GOVMT need to do something valuable to address the needs of the Pilgrim visitors comming from all ends of the country Sri Lanka.
Could not fulfill the needs we went to Kataragama due exorbitant accommodation and food price.

Kataragama temple in Kataragama, Sri Lanka, is a temple...
Kataragama temple in Kataragama, Sri Lanka, is a temple complex dedicated to Buddhist guardian deity God Kataragama and Hindu War God Murugan. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and the Vedda people. Kataragama deviyo is a deification of the legendary king Mahasena, who is born as a Bodhisattva. According to legendary history, Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya was built by King Dutugemunu around 160 years B.C. in fulfilment of a vow to defeat King Elara in battle. It was endowed with a large extent of land by King Dutugemunu for its maintenance and subsequent monarchs did likewise. Kataragama is a multi-religious sacred town. Despite the differences of caste and creed, many Sri Lankans show great reverence to God Kataragama. They honour him as a very powerful deity and beg divine help to overcome their personal problems or for success in business enterprises, etc., with the fervent hope that their requests will be granted. They believe that God Kataragama exists and is vested with extraordinary power to assist those who appeal to him with faith and devotion in times of distress or calamity.
Humbhaha is a great place to chill out. The place borders Yala (jungle rules), yet at
a walking distance from Kataragama. For nature lovers it is a true paradise, animals (wild and domesticated) are everywhere. The hosts Christine and Fernando are amazing. They can make out of strangers a group of good friends. They are truly good spirits in this place.
They offer good meals and drinks at reasonable local prices. They also organised safari in Yala for us. Humbhaha is defintly the place not be missed out once you're in the area.
Amazing experience at Lake Front Yala Safari. The room was extremely comfortable and very clean but the best thing was the family that run this guesthouse, very kind and welcoming. The lady cooked a spectacular dinner, the best I have had since I'm in Sri Lanka, the daughter is a very smart girl who speaks very good English, she explained to me about the Sri Lankan culture and traditions of Kataragama. Last but not least I could book the safari through them at a very affordable price.
I recommend this place 100%
We enjoyed our stay at Chamith’s hotel. He owns the place with his brother and they’ve had a really hard go at it since covid. You can now really tell they’re doing their absolute best to give you an amazing experience. The bungalows are new, clean, large and have everything you need. The owners prepared us food for the evenings and even packed us breakfast for our very early safari (very tasty!). All in all, if you like wildlife and nature, don’t think twice before coming here! Thank you Chamith.
Everyone at Mailagama Cinnamon were so friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. They arranged two safaris for us, both with great guides they knew, and you’re in between two blocks of Yala National Park for easy access. They cooked delicious meals, which we ate outside surrounded by beautiful rice paddies, and they even packed us a breakfast for our early morning safari. The rooms are huge and the showers had the best water pressure!
Plesant stay at Kataragama ..
Centrally Located , Clean and Spacious rooms and excellent customer service..
The Kataragama temple is few hundred meters away from the hotel and walkable while the Sella Kataragama is 10 mins drive away from the hotel.
The care Taker Raju, really helped us and was willing to go the extra mile to meet the customer needs.
Really enjoyed our stay and will highly recommend the hotels for families visiting Kataragama.
The hosts were absolutely fantastic, very warm and welcoming. Kapila's knowledge about the flora and fauna in Yala National Park is top level and we would highly recommend doing your safari with him.
The rooms are very spacious, the beds are super comfortable and the hotel is in a very quiet spot so you are guaranteed a good night sleep. The garden is beautiful with lots of bird life around too. Highly recommend staying here!
really lives up to its name..a grand hotel with lovely views of the lake. hotel rooms are HUGE. Good food and friendly staff especially Sumeera who saved my safari day as reception forgot to make booking - so he got it all done at 6am and then had breakfast ready on my return and then got me a taxi to leave. Thank you Malee..you are a credit to your team.
Great safari camp with renovated rooms, good AC and decent breakfast. Tours to Yala Park can bee booked at reasonable prices.
Saminda and Sameera made our stay more warmhearted, with great service - an excellent experience. Thank you and c u next time!
We booked 1 night at UD garden hotel and the property was closed to the Kataragama town (walking distance). Room was so nice and clean well maintained. staff was friendly and helpful. Highly Recommended
One of the nicest guesthouses. Good condition of rooms and close to city center. Very pleasant and helpful Dinesh and his wife who were happy to prepare a delicious meal for us.
The staff was helpful. They provided us a pass to drive the car directly to the Kataragama devala premises. Also helped us in the dining. The rooms were clean.
