The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint.
However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good.
As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work.
Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments.
Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.

The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.

Just the right location.
Just the right location. Not too far from Colombo but has the nice secluded feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Close to a lot of places to visit - Kalutara temple, Bentota for water sports, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery.
Overall, a great place to be in!!

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities.
The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities. The problem is that there are no decent restaurants or coffees near by. You are opted to only eat at the hotel, unless you are adventurous. You are better off to go a bit more south or north and close to the capital to find reasonable restaurants and coffees etc. If you like to each and just stay within the resort then you will be OK as hotels in the area offer everything you need.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay.
Kalutara is a great place for a short stay. While it is not as crowded with tourists and activities when compared with her neighbouring districts Colombo and Galle, it is quite special in it's own simplicity. The sights generally known to see are few and are quite close too each other. A day to sightsee and enjoy the city, a day to enjoy the hotel and it's facilities and a day for the beach and surrounding neighbourhood is in my opinion the ideal way to plan a trip to Kalutara.
The best place you must visit in my opinion is Jeoffrey Bava's garden. The place is great to walk around, take some beautiful photos and run around a little.
Beatifull place and hotel beach with full servis - included even coffe served i porcelain. :-)
Little bit spartan small hotel (8 rooms?), but on relatively great surface with both - seafront beach for great Sunsets, and swimming pool with palms in middle.
Excellent servis and exquisite international kitchen personally supervised by the owner Mr. Nelson - great person and soon friend (Thank You for our days of Happiness and Quiet, Nelson, as even for your frienship :-) )
We sure come back here again!
It is rather small hotel 20-22 villas, situated in a beautiful green garden with a nice pool and access to a large and long beach. We stayed in a single unit villa. The highlights of the villa are the large bathroom with open air part and the large and comfortable bed.
The restaurant of the hotel is a highlight too - very good food choices and quality (morning and evening buffet), as well as the service.
The breakfast was wonderful, served fresh everyday by Stanley at what ever time we wanted it.
Omelette of my choice and Sri Lankan sausages followed by toast and marmalade. This was followed by a fresh fruit salad prepared by Stanley or Sisi ( Sisi is the owner). All served with a pot or two of Ceylon tea.
Nothing was to much trouble for these two wonderful guys.
We had a great experience with the Hibiscus Beach hotel & Villas at Kalutara Sri Lanka. Staff was incredibly helpful and the amenities were great. The room was wonderful and clean. The staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. We highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Sri Lanka.
Hotel is right next to beach with nice view from balcony. To food store or restaurants its not far (10 minutes walk). Rooms are nice and comfortable. Pool is also nice, with good deep for kids. Staff was always ready to help us with any possible wish or question. I fully recomend to stay here...
The hotel owner Nilanthi was very friendly. His attitude very well, and food was natural as we wanted.. We travelled 7 days, but this hotel was best one... Even many hotel more was more expensive, but was not good. I am happy.

Tangerine is one hotel we have seen over the years has improved in every aspect. Their staff is the best when it comes to customer service. Food is top notch with so many varieties to choose from. All in all very high value for money you pay.
Buffet breakfast was amazing, excellent variety every day with lots of fresh juices and fresh fruits. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Rooms and bathrooms were large and well supplied. Although bedroom lacked a comfy chair or sofa
Wonderful & very close beach view villa. Its perfect place for ur birthday party or enjoy ur holiday in beach side. 100% safety + friendly service + very clean. Place and view everything are same as the images they are added on booking.com
This hotel was just amazing ! With 3 mins walking you can find a good beach to swim but it is little bit rough but still usable ❤️ and the uncle who take care of this villa is so nice and a kind person ! I highly recommend this place
Excellent services provided by all staff members. We had an upgrade of the room which was a pleasant surprise. Hotel it self if old but very well maintained and has so much of space which is a rarity these days.
We're disappointed with the hotel as we booked a balcony with a sea view but were given a garden view instead. Despite requesting a change, our concerns have been ignored.
