The hosts at Yakunoyado Taguchi were amazing and kind. Shigeru picked me up from the port and I found the area relatively easy to walk around and explore. There is a bus to take you around, too, if you want. Taxis are not easy to secure if you don't rent a car. I wish I had made a reservation for meals! I was sad to miss out on the hostess' cooking (entirely my fault). Be sure to let them know two days in advance.
Amazingly, Shigeru was able to take me around the island, for a very reasonable fee, and I got to see *so* much I otherwise would not. I was so lucky! It was a magical day.

A beautiful hotel with fully equipped cabins that feel like luxury in the countryside. The outdoor bath and hammock feature exceptional sea views. Beds were extremely comfortable. The food was amongst the best we had in Japan, each meal was truly exceptional. The owners are kind and caring, and can offer excellent advice about sightseeing and hikes.
Renting a car is a necessity to reach this hotel, but is also highly recommended as the best way to explore Yakushima.
Just 15 minutes from Yakushima Airport on the free shuttle, Tashiro Annex offers air-conditioned Japanese rooms with a private bathroom and river or forest views.
