The Sardinian capital, Cagliari has a historic old town, busy port and one of the island’s best beaches. The sweeping stretch of sand at Poetto offers great summer nightlife, and just inland is Molentargius lagoon, where flamingos nest against the backdrop of the city.
Cagliari is spread over a small hill and the oldest part – Quartiere Castello – lies at the top. There are far-reaching views from Bastion San Remy, its main entrance point. Medieval city walls lead from here to the simple cathedral, and nearby is the 18th-century Palazzo Regio.
By one of the original city gates is the National Archaeological Museum, housing a collection of Phoenician and Roman artefacts from the city’s Tuvixeddu Necropolis. There are also displays of the nuraghic civilisation whose former dwellings pepper Sardinia. The most impressive is Su Nuraxi north of Cagliari.
Just outside the walls are remains of a Roman amphitheatre, next to the university botanical gardens. Orange tree-lined streets descend the hill towards the seafront where restaurants and bars can be found. Cagliari FC play at Sant’Elia Stadium along the coast and opposite is the Sardinia International Fair, an important conference venue.
Booking.com’s Cagliari accommodation includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs by the train station and cheap guest houses near Elmas Airport.
I liked the antiquity and history. We also visited the Museum of Archeology, a definite must. The sights in Cagliari, the narrow streets and the little train that one can ride for a minimal fee.
The shop, cafe and restaurant servers were all gracious and nice, very friendly.

Weather was not nice, so we cannot really use the beaches or go the mountain (to much windy), but center and close surroundings of Cagliari are nice, wonderful views, walking in small streets. We recommend to take bus Nr.7, which is circular line. How the driver is driving thru small streets - respect. In any case is better for stay in the city to use buses - it'smore practical and ecological, cheap and good service, parking is anyway difficult.

Excellent small town, which is very pleasant to walk around, enjoy the architecture and food. In general, there is not much to do in it, except to spend time by the sea and on the beaches. 3 days is fully enough to see all parts of the city.

Loads of walking up.and down hills and stairs.
Loads of walking up.and down hills and stairs. Easy to get around and all nearby. Loved the narrow streets and Marina. Great cycling tour of the city to Poetta beach. The Botanical Gardens were fantastic - well worth the visit. The public civic gardens were lovely and so well maintained by the hard working crew. Also the art gallery at the end of it was small but beautiful.

A truly Mediterranean city, warm and full of life and positive vibes. It's history and culture deserve much more respect than it actually receives. Some spots are neglected (particularly Bastione San Remi), the roads are not in the best shape and overall there is a sense of neglect. Luckily the locals with their helpful attitude make up for the minuses which most probably are created by the local authorities.
On arrival our 1st meeting with Petra our host was warm and welcoming, the unit itself was clean modern and well setup with everything you need, the varendah is large with a BBQ and catches the breeze very comfortable to sit out there after a busy day exploring, the unit is situated in a great area close to all the good restaurants and buses to get you around overall this was a great introduction to Sardinia and the town of Cagliari would recommend this property to all Thank You Petra for all your information and help on your Beautiful Town
it was nicely situated and really offered you the chance to taste Sardinia as you walked the streets toward a more touristy area. it was close to stores, which was great. just a half block from a corner mart if you need a snack or a drink. the absolute BEST thing about the stay was the host who was always attentive in communication and, for a small fee, will pick you up from the airport or take you to the airport. he is a lifelong Sardinian who is so well-versed in Sardinia. the room is large and private. Facilities wonderful.
delicious breakfast - pancales, crepes, eggs made in home made style. Fresh fruit, excellent ham and cheese. There is of course not big variety because its small hotel but its far far more tasty than in big hotels. Room design - very nice - modern but cosy. Every day cleanup, very helpful stuff and closeness to Cita Alta make it perfect place to stay in Cagliari. It.s easy to travel by bus to Poetto Beach or take longer trips to Villasimius. Many nice restaurants in the surrounding area. Beautiful view for marina.
Fully equipped kitchen for making what ever you imagine and the apartment close to historical center, near the train station and the bus stations. The most convenient apartment to go anywhere. Francesca was so forward thinking what i could have gone to Cagliari in just my bathing suit and a change of clothes. She provides you whatever you can imagine and even more. Not to mention the welcome Sardinian appetizer, the peach tea,the limoncello and the home made liker in the freeze !!!!! Treasure!!!!
We had a phenomenal stay here. Roberta was exceptionally warm and caring and made us feel right at home. She went out of her way to help make our trip perfect, from preparing an incredible breakfast spread in the morning, to helping us arrange local transportation, to recommending tours to some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. Her attention to detail is unparalleled, and the B&B is stunning. We are so grateful to have found this accommodation and would stay again in a heartbeat.
We had a fantastic holiday in Cagliari. The guest house II Profumo del Mare is located in a perfect place - right near the Poetto beach. The room was nice and clean with a wonderful sea view from the balcony, very comfortable bed and a big and comfortable bathroom.
Antonio is a fantastic host. He gave us very good recomendations about the points of interst in Cagliari as well as about local restaurants. He even surprised us with a bottle of a nice Sardinian wine. thank you, Antonio!
the best start of holiday in Sardinia.

Perfect apartment, comfortable and close to Poetto beach and mountains with magnificent sights. Cagliari has well-organized public transportation system, so you can get to the city center quickly by bus. Great place for runners. Juan is very responsive and friendly, it was so nice to meet him. Also he allowed me late check-in and late check-out. Thank you!
Wonderfully welcoming and accommodating hosts. Tastefully decorated down to every last detail. Extremely clean and well equipped. Perfect location for visiting central Cagliari and Sud Sardegna. Parking was easy, and the building elevator was key. Great shower, super comfy bed. Smart TVs in both the living room and bedroom. Even more beautiful in person.
T Hotel is near the airport and Poetto beach and very accessible to public transpo to the city center (Via Roma). We had a room upgrade which is greatly appreciated for our week long stay. Front desk & wellness personnels were lovely and efficient. Facilities are modern & well kept; for me Cleanliness is key. Molto Grazie to the mgmt & crew :)
Nice small modern hotel with a beautiful design in the very center of capital city of Sardinia. A bit complex to find because there are 3 door, instructions on WhatsApp are written by very small typos and not very clearly describing. A very pet friendly atmosphere, good breakfast and all necessary for comfortable staying.
second time for me in Cagliari (Poetto beach) and I decided to go back to Villa Sveva since the first time I enjoyed the location (close to the beach), the cleanliness of the hotel, the kindness of staff and the possibility to reach easily the airport by bus/train!
We liked almost everything. Very nice modern hotel with spacious comfortable rooms. Great breakfast. Nice staff, very good facilities. The bar is great, nice cocktails. The only real 4-star hotel we stayed in during our 10 day-long holiday in Sardinia.
Palazzo Dessy is like staying in someone's lovely home in the heart of Cagliari, but with the benefits of a hotel (privacy and luxury). The space was so lovely, the location great, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I would stay again!
The hotel is a mere 10 min walk from the centre of Cagliari; it's a lovely accommodation in a beautiful Italian villa. Staff were welcoming, and the room was spacious with a cute balcony.
