I might have stayed another night or two. We didn't have a chance to explore very far, and I had enough shopping. Our hotel had room service for food which was wonderful.
We ate at a rooftop fish restaurant and it was very bland. I was hoping for spicy food! Breakfast at Joes Cafe was good. It seemed to be the hot spot for Westerners.

It’s better to do the monuments early in the morning and hire a guide who will ride with you to take you to all the monuments as it’s too hot in June. It will take around 3 hours or more.
If you have nice zoo in your city for crocodiles and alligators then avoid the crocodile park as it doesn’t have anything special. Rest there’s nothing else to do in Mahabalipuram. Food in restaurants like A2b n all depends upon how clean you would like your food to be, I found the restaurant extremely crowded and unhygienic.

Very easy to walk about to all the major sights.
Very easy to walk about to all the major sights. No need for rickshaws unless you find walking arduous. They are available.
Some of the Kashmiri and Ladakhi shop owners really pushy. Most good humoured and we all know it’s a haggling game and people need to make a living. At the end of the day ask yourself how much you really want something and when you’ll be back. Most of these chaps send money home to families and travellers money main source of income
Go to Akka Creations on 39-48 Othavadai Street. The most amazing textile creations and fixed prices as manufactured by group of 100 or so women just out of Mahabs. I bought lots there including a beautiful elephant cushion cover for 500 rupees. Everything really well made.
Must place for authentic and tasty food is Mamalla Bhavan near bus station. A local institution that will not disappoint and cheap.

One of the best resorts I've ever been privileged enough to stay at. Gorgeous space, amazing architectures, delightful food, service and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in. High quality rooms and high quality service.
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff were amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. My compliments to Allagar, Parameswaran, Jaspal, Navin and the rest for providing gold star service!
I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Mahabalipuram.
The host is very helpful that he allowed me to store the baggage and use the rest room when I early arrived, and he provided me the room a few hours before formal check-in time. I really appreciate his treat, especially when I just finished a long fight at the mid-night.
Enough space. Clean floor. Near beach. No A/C but providing a ceiling fan with good ventilation, that is enough at night.
The honour of this guest house is too helpful. He gives free water and the rooms are very good and very affordable.
They are also serving food.
From room only few metres Beach is there. And the beach is not crowded.
