Chettinadu Mansion – An Authentic Heritage Palace, hotel in Kānādukāttān

Built in 1902, the beautiful Chettinadu Mansion in Kāraikkudi boasts stunning architecture, Italian marble flooring and wooden furnishings.

Gives you an opportunity to stay in an authentic heritage house unlike other newly constructed ones. The staff go out of their way to explain items present in their museum. The fact they were able to have and maintain a swimming pool in the village even if it is a bit of a 5 mins walk is amazing. Washrooms were comfortable and specifically constructed for this though the steps could be avoided to support elderly guests.

THE CHETTINAD HERITAGE, hotel in Kānādukāttān

THE CHETTINAD HERITAGE has free bikes, garden, a terrace and restaurant in Kānādukāttān.

The Chettinad Heritage is a lovely, lovely place and I'm very happy to have stayed here. My room was very, very comfortable & clean, and delightfully painted in Chettinad style. The property's just outside the main town, and is very quite & peaceful. The staff are very kind & attentive. One of the staff arranged for a local rickshaw driver, a lovely man, to take me to Athangudi Palace, the temples & rock fort at Thirumayam & also the Sri Solai Aandavar Temple in Pallathur, which made for a great morning. Also, the simple food is exceptional, possibly the best food I've eaten in South India! Thanks very much for a lovely stay 😊

Visalam Chettinad Palace - CGH Earth, hotel in Kānādukāttān

Visalam is a century-old lovingly-restored palatial home in Kanadukathan village of the Chettinad region in Tamil Nadu.

Beautifully restored Chettinad mansion. Rooms were very spacious with lovely period furniture. Beautiful old photographs of the owners family are displayed through the property and it adds a unique homely touch and takes us back in time. We tried the vegetarian Chettinad saapadu which was awesome. We took a nice evening walk around the village with Mr. Siva who also gave us tips for sightseeing around the region and even arranged for us to see the owners other mansion in a nearby village. The staff went out of the way to make us comfortable.

The whole place needed a facelift.

The whole place needed a facelift. Was looking seedy n run down. Even the front needed a paint work. Bathroom was smelling. The toilet bowl the wash basin n the buckets were dirty. The flooring was not clean n we had to leave our footwear outside. Food was very poor . Rotis were undercooked and we had a stomach upset. Limited choice in food and even that was not good

Typical small village in Tamil Nadu which has a lot of history. Very good accessibility to the location and not too far from major cities and towns. An ideal place if one was looking for peace and quiet in a village surrounding. A lot of antiques especially house hold related, available to see and handicraft also ( weaving, tiles )

Comfortable stay for short trip and daughter would like to stay in Chettinad style of houses, she was really enjoyed and liked this place. Great antique design with neatly arranged items in the house and rooms with hand painted tiles and the staff's are very helpful, especially manager was keep calling before our checkin and arranged dinner when we did late checkin, good room service, the entire staffs makes you feel very comfortable. Definitely recommend for a short stay. Keep in the mind, this hotel is bit away from Mainland Karaikudi. Rest all good.

If you are a person interested in traditional architecture of the Chettinad region, Kanadukattan is an excellent location to use as your base. Nearby temples, forts, sacred groves are all worth a visit. Ideal months to visit will be from November to February when the whether is nice for sight seeing and exploring.

The place charges more than Taj Vivanta, but the facilities...

The place charges more than Taj Vivanta, but the facilities and amenities are not even 20% of TAJ. The Plantain Leaf Lunch was very expensive and atleast 4 times costlier than the plantain leaf lunch available at any other place. The food quality is also not upto the standard. Breakfast was very good. The advertise as HD channels available, but finally star sports non-HD channel was also not available. I have to really fight to change my set-off box since no channels were working. Maintenance of the room is poor. The just clean the room and give to the next guest when one vacates. They do not have a proper maintenance schedule before giving to the guest. The worst about the resort which charges such a high rate is the car parking. They do not have covered car park and you have to park in a muddy ground and when it rains it is horrible. Even when you alight from car to enter the hotel you have to alight in the open space and when it rains it is a nightmare.

    The grandness of the town..

The grandness of the town.. Almost all the houses (I should call the palace) were so big and if constructed by anyone now it would be impossible to do and maintain such huge mansions. I never expected to see such grand houses the people used them as dwelling places just until a few decades ago. Check this place to experience the culture, heritage and architecture. You are in a relaxed town to forget the busy city life. The food you can explore a lot of local cusines especially for non-vegetarians. Overall visit the place to relax, dine and enjoy the calm and peaceful town.
