The Royal Victoria & Bull Hotel, hotel in Rochester

Ideally located in the centre of Rochester, The Royal Victoria & Bull Hotel offers accommodation with city view. Free private parking are available.

Rooms dated and dirty. All I can say is don't waste your money. Disgraceful that they are allowed to call this a hotel l.

We stayed for the Sweeps Festival, a celebration of traditional dance and music which sadly was spoilt a little by weather on one day, but if the indoor events don’t appeal there is a variety of bars and places to eat and alternative activities are a visit to a thousand year old castle and the 2nd oldest Cathedral in the UK, Guildhall Museum or a short drive away there is Chatham Historical Dockyard, and Royal Engineers museum.

Castle and cathedral are first class. Eastgate House very interesting. Good Italian restaurant and plenty of other choices. Everywhere within easy walking distance. Whole High Street noisy on Saturday night. Guildhall Museum, Restoration House and Huguenot Museum shut for our visit. Tourist Information Office shut down

    Rochester is very charming.

Rochester is very charming. The High Street is very lovely with lots of quality second hand shops, if this is your thing. I was absolutely mesmerized by the castle. Well worth climbing the stairs all to the top, especially on a sunny day, the view is amazing. (check for opening times). The cathedral is really beautiful, do go inside if you are there. You can just go in and explore the cathedral or do a guided tour (also check for opening times). The town has a very rich history. You could also choose do do a walking trail along the river. The Royal Crown Pub has a lot of character and the food was really tasty.

I think some money needs to be spent updating the decor of the hotel and rooms. The room rate is inexpensive and hotel is in a good location but it is looking a bit worn. There was a crack in the top corner of room near the front window of our room and given the connection of the hotel with Charles Dickens, the hotel undersells itself. There was also loud music coming from the bar downstairs in same hotel complex.

Rochester is great The Royal Victoria and Bull Hotel is not somewhere anyone should trust to stay. Where was the staff? Why was the gates locked? Why was there not a message on the gate or at reception? How is this hotel allowed to remain in relation to health and safetytt?

Different places and things appeal to different people. OK.

Different places and things appeal to different people. OK. But I'm more than happy to put in a word for Rochester, It was, until 1998 when "Medway" (population 250,000 was created from Rochester, Chatham, Strood, Gillingham and Rainham, all today more or less contiguous) a historic and important small City. Now Rochester is just a "Town", which seems frankly ludicrous. Population only 60,000 and they have problems. The High Street includes far too many Charity Shops, although also some beautiful and historic buildings. Too close to London. But Rochester also has the second oldest Cathedral in England, and still largely Norman Architecture rather than Canterbury's huge late Gothic. Rochester also boasts the tallest and best preserved Norman castle keep in both England and France. Then there are all the links with Charles Dickens and much else besides. And then the Chatham Historic Dockyard, worth a day's time of anyone interested in British history and only a few miles from Rochester. I note the 2021 Lonely Planet Great Britain (page 162) manages just over 2 column inches on Chatham Dockyard. And that's it. Not even a mention of Rochester or "Medway" in the index. That, in my book, is all you need to know about "Guide Books"!

The location was beautiful. Set in the countryside with immaculate garden, plenty of room to park and the barn has been lovingly renovated with tasteful decor and furnishings. The owners were friendly and accommodating with great suggestions of places to eat and visit. The breakfast selection was varied, nicely presented and more importantly delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return when we visit family in Kent again.

The staff were all lovely. The place is immaculately clean. It’s advertised as near Rochester train station but it’s actually on the Strood side of the bridge. If you stay here, please don’t bother paying for breakfast. You pay to go to a weird basement area which looks like a place murderers hide bodies to boil the kettle to make horrible tea and coffee from little packets and then have a box of cereal, toast or pain au chocolat from Asda.

Excellent staff prior to arrival and on the front desk, who cheerfully answered all our queries about parking, sorted out a bigger room as we'd booked a single by mistake, and topped us up with teas and coffees. The location is just brilliant for exploring Rochester, and free parking is a real bonus. To stay in a hotel where Dickens and Queen Victoria have stayed for 45 pounds is fantastic.

This place is really unique and the vessel has an interesting history. The host was very hospitable and they have kept the rooms and the guest areas in a fantastic condition. The location was great as you could see so much in all directions and Rochester is close by. Breakfast was delicious and the beds were comfy. We would definitely highly recommend this place.

make no mistake this is a budget hotel and looks like it in some areas. But it is on the High Street and it is friendly and clean. And it is half price of any other hotel in the area. This time we paid a little more for a suite and we had a king sized bed, a big room and even bigger ensuite bathroom a lovely free standing antique bath.

Great location, a walk in to Rochester in 15 minutes, park up the road for the kids. Well equipped for short stays. Great contact and very accommodating host. Several shops at a few minutes walk, highly recommend. We were two adults and two kids and had plenty of space.

Lovely location and easy to find. I prefer the anonymity of a hotel however my stay for just the 1 night was very relaxed and it felt to me like home from home, only better. The double ensuite room is spacious and very comfortable with everything I needed for my stay.
