Nice quiet room with excellent bathroom and comfy bed. The staff helped us by carrying our suitcase up the stairs. It was good to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Plenty of parking very close to the room.

Lovely village and was easy to find. There was a music and beer festival on the Saturday at the pub which was lively but didn't spoil our stay as the music subsided by 11 pm.The breakfasts are excellent , staff were very welcoming,
the quality and various options would suit the majority of tastes and the accommodation was clean and modern, there is plenty of parking too, would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Room and staff brilliant but for the rest definitely would not recommend it management needs to sort out the restaurant and the kitchen and make sure they have enough food for the day and evening sittings also don't have builders in at 9.30 in the morning when residents are going for there breakfast

Excellent venue and facilities.
Excellent venue and facilities. Very poor staff attitudes towards my food allergies and my attempts to have a bill corrected. I complained to the company CEO and received a formal apology. I would not recommend the restaurant if you have a medical problem such as coeliac or dairy problems. This is a fact-based assessment. Apparently some individuals are being retrained

Booking.com customers were treated like they were unwelcome.
Booking.com customers were treated like they were unwelcome. The booking.com fee was £175.00 but it was an extra £35.00 to check in before 5pm (4pm). Booking.com customers are not allowed to be in the hotel between 10am and 5pm or you have to pay £55.00 to be on the premises. £175.00 gets a continental breakfast and a hot breakfast is extra. I booked a double bed and got two single beds. I was put in the room which is the furthest room from reception and was warned by the member of staff that the room is a very long walk. Booking.com should inform their customers that Champneys have these additional costs and restriction levied against booking.com customers. I don't think they want your business booking.com you almost lost me as a loyal customer for not being honest about Champneys.
Breakfast was a poor experience. I have chronic coeliac disease and the disposition and listening faculties of staff were poor. I elected to avoid eating at the venue for the rest of my time at the venue. I complained to the CEO of the hotel chain. I have received a formal apology and the venue says individuals are being retrained. As a coeliac, I would be very wary about eating anything at this venue in the future, owing to my treatment.
We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at The Crown. The rooms were lovely, everything was of the highest quality and anything you could possibly need in a hotel room had been thought of. The staff were very accommodating and the breakfast was delicious. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Crown to anyone.
It was cheap in comparison to any other hotel near Hitchin. The others have recently all pushed their prices to £110 or more which for a bed with no breakfast is unacceptable to us..
It was a bed for the night that was about all you could say about it.
A wonderful homely feel!
Able to come and go as you pleased- more like a hotel than a B and B but with a lovely personal touch!
A self contained room with own en-suite and own key issued to allow you to come and go as needed.
I will be returning!
