Cinderford is a small place but is within walking distance of the White Hart Inn, where we stayed. We found a couple of cafe's that are good for breakfast and lunch. Dinner in the evening can be an issue as places to eat are limited. The White Hart Inn do meals and while well priced are very big. There is an excellent curry house called Curry Leaf and a pub called The Golden Lion. The Golden lion has music on Friday and Saturday and the Nags Head has Music on Saturday.
The only problem for us was that most places do not open until 6 or 7pm during the week. The White Hart Inn is usually open after 4pm since this is when guests can check in. I have no idea what time they open if no one needs to check in but seemed to be open for locals.
You will need a car to get around but Cinderford is well located to main routes through the forest and access to the nearby towns. There are a number of bus services within the Forest of Dean but we are not sure how frequent they are. There is a map and information online although there can be issues with cell connection in areas of Cinderford.

Cinderford is ideal for visiting other places, we went to Ross on Wye, and lovely walks. We didn’t eat actually in at any restaurants in Cinderford as we only stayed two nights, except for fish and chips the first night, which was excellent.

The Pumping Station is a great place to stay which has access to the Forest from right outside the door. We ate at several places and particularly enjoyed The Miners Sling (Sling), the Red Hart (Blaisdon) and Ye Old Ferrie Inn (Symonds Yat). The milk direct from the farm at the Micheldean Milk Shed was terrific.
