Château des Vigiers, hotel in Sainte-Foy-la-Grande

This 4-star hotel located in a stunning 16th-century estate is surrounded by the countryside and boasts an outdoor swimming pool and spa.

There is no bar in at the Chateau Which is extremely dissapointing we had to have room service for a drink at night which was extortionately expensive. The breakfast had a very poor selection for a hotel of this standard.

Manu is a wonderful host. He is warm, friendly and welcoming. And a bit quirky in a good way. The house is great and the room spacious and clean. The bathroom looked quite new and was also very spacious. Manu spoke a little bit of English and also a bit German, together with our limited French, we had great conversations.

Everything about the Chateau Mejean was to like. The room, the breakfast, the owners, the ambience. I very much enjoyed my stay and would certainly stay again. The apricot jam at breakfast was divine and made by the owner. Despite my luggage restrictions I bought a jar to take with me!

A beautiful and historic town with a lovely high street and town square. Train station was about a 12 minutes walk to the town centre. Since Foy is on the Aquitaine train line between Bordeaux and bergerac / Sarlat, so easy to explore by public transport. The river runs through the town and there are fine walks along it. Alternatively, there are a few vineyards either side of the town within an hour's walk.

There are some good restaurants. I recommend Au Fils De L’eau. The food was amazing. Especially the mushrooms. We enjoyed the wine too. There are enough shops to get everything you need. It is a gateway to the area as there are so many places you wasn’t to see eg Bergerac or Bordeaux

The town has a big Saturday morning market and some interesting shops. The patisseries were lovely. There are pleasant walks on both sides of the river. A greener one just over the bridge in Port St Foy. Two good restaurants. 'Saveurs d'ailleurs 33' which served absolutely delicious tajines. The other was just over the bridge in Port St foy overlooking the river called 'Au fil de l'eau' serving French cuisine. Easy free parking all around the town. A visit to the chateau at Monzabillac was interesting with the bonus wine tasting, plus wonderful views for miles over the Bergerac valley.

I'd recomment to avoid the town itself.

I'd recomment to avoid the town itself. It is a failed place with quite a population of strangly looking individuals. Perhaps years ago that was a place to be but for now it needs a lot of goventmental support to revive the town.

there isn't really anything to dislike about st foy.

there isn't really anything to dislike about st foy. what did catch us out a few times is the opening/closing times of shops and bars/pubs. a lot of them close for a few hours in the afternoon and we could only find one place to get a drink after 9pm but once you know it's easy to work around.

The location, for train travellers, was perfect - right next to the station yet on a quiet road. The hotel was spotless. It was packed with history and yet had all mod cons. The proprietors were warm and friendly.

Room was good. Hotel had limited facilities - no bar, no food apart from breakfast when we stayed. Breakfast was average. Secure garage for bikes. Helpful and polite staff. Great location for hotel.
