Beautiful old town with picturesque landscape and wonderful parks.
A lot of culture - music, theatre etc. The Cultural Academy of Tartu University has brought new vibe with it's students into the old town.

Compact city with a very laid back vibe which is easy to explore on foot. Everyone was helpful even though I don't speak Estonian, and overall it feels like a welcoming place. It's not a 'bright lights' kind of city, but a great place to relax and wander at a relaxed pace. There are lots of cafes, restaurants and bars in town, though I only had time to check out Fellinn for lunch and Romaan bar for a drink. Both were excellent - the bread at Fellinn is particularly delicious, and the barman at Romaan recommended me a perfect craft beer for my tastes. Also loved my walk around the castle ruins and a visit to the Kondas Centre to see their current exhibition.

Best time to visit is definitely the summer and autumn since Viljandi has a lot of parks, gardens and other green areas - walk, run, cycle or just sit on a bench and do some dolce far niente. There's always a good exhibit or two (or three) in Kondas Art Centre and every time I visit there's a new café or lounge just opened and eager to surprise.
P.S! Bring your best walking shoes since public transport within the city runs once in a blue moon.

Located equal distance from the Capital Tallinn as the University town Tartu and the Beach/Spa resort town of Pärnu, and approximately halfway between them, Viljandi is a hidden pearl! It has stayed relatively safe from utilitarian architecture, and managed to keep a lot of its Independence Era charm. Little streets and alleys, cafes and restaurants, magnificent Castle ruins, all are populated by friendly local people. Viljandi is not one of those towns that come alive only during Festivals (of which they hold many), but a living, growing place that has managed to preserve its charm and keep it present.
Whatever you may dream of, you may find that hidden in Viljandi

It's certainly one of my favorite places in Estonia with quite a lot of culture and history and the story behind it. This city seems to be first founded and occupied by the German elites and so the traces of high-class families, architecture, and culture could be seen throughout the city. I really enjoyed just walking and taking photos of the buildings.
The staff moved me to a different room, on a different floor, after I reported the noise of the TV in the adjoining room coming through the AC grille. Good! On the other hand, they didn't offer me an upgrade, although the hotel was hardly full. (And it was New Year's Eve, after all ...)
Breakfast was pretty good, and as described. However, it's a little disappointing that the bacon etc is already cold just twenty minutes after breakfast officially starts. On the other hand, excellent bread (this is Estonia, after all)!
The Posti Apartment is a very nicely renovated designer penthouse in a beautiful old corner house, absolutely centrally located in the old town of Viljandi. The host Margus was extremely helpful and flexible in arranging us - at a very short notice - check-in almost four hours earlier than regularly would have been the case. Given the outrageously expensive local hotels, one would be crazy to stay anywhere else but in the Posti Apartment while visiting Viljandi, such is its value for money proposition!
Upon arrival Monika put us into the Mulgi apartment instead of the one we had booked. She said that since we were staying for so many days it would be more comfortable since it is slightly larger and has a better kitchen. The apartment has a very nice cozy vibe, and my partner said he felt amazingly well there.
The location is great, Monika was lovely and next time we are in Viljandi we will definitely stay there again.
I liked the building, apartment and location, it quiet and cosy place to be and have rest. Everything needed was already existing in the apartment, next time I will not take so much things from home. I appreciate a lot that host was very kind and has arranged a separate baby-bed for our small child.
Great location - the sights were in a 5-minute walk from the hotel. The room was comfortable, clean and warm enough. As we were travelling by car, we were provided with a parking place without extra charges. I can't say that breakfast was very variable but it was good and substantial.
This is a charming hotel with some very personal rooms in the old main building. More charming than those big standard hotel where you have hundreds of similar standard rooms.
Very peaceful street, a short and very nice walk to the center. Big supermarket nearby.
- it’s my second time here!:)
- location in the old town
- very kind, friendly staff (thank you for letting me store my luggage)
- very clean
- there is a yoga studio at the first floor, where I joined spontaneously
- every room is private!
- shared kitchen
Excellent location, beautifully renovated apartment in a stylish inter-war building near Viljandi castle hill. Good walking paths and sightseeing. Fully equipped, comfortable, quiet, good wifi. A short walk away from great restaurants.
Such a lovely apartment! Beautiful interior. Very easy to agree on a check-in time. It was clean, air-conditioned and very comfy. Had everything we needed and the location is so good. Will probably stay again when in Viljandi.
Very nice and beautiful apartment. Even more beautiful when in pictures. Nice bathroom. Good kitchen. Very clean. Good place, in the center of Viljandi. And the city also very nice. I would like to come once again.
It is located in the quiet Viljandi suburb. Cute small rooms for short stays. Breakfast had all the main things (muesli, porridge, eggs, sandwiches, good coffee) you would want from an Estonian breakfast.
Everything was exceptional, room was cozy, comfy beds, breakfast quite rich for the small place like this. If you're coming for water activity - Viljandi järv is 200 meters away
Park Hotel Viljandi just perfect place for vacation with friends. The breakfast was super. Staff is super and very understanding.
Dinner in the restaurant was very good.
