Located on the banks of the Fulda River in Germany’s Hessen region, Kassel was re-built after World War II where most of the city’s architectural history was destroyed. Although alot was destroyed, Kassel still features many prominent landmarks such as Königsplatz Kassel, which is a public square, the astronomy and physical cabinet of Orangerie and the splendid Town Hall Kassel.
Separating the city from the surrounding Hawk Forest is the stunning Wilhelmshöhe Palace and its adjoining Wilhelmshoehe Bergpark which features picturesque gardens, museums and the Ball House at the Wilhelmshoehe Palace.
Kassel has a variety of dining and entertainment options from the traditional Brauhaus to local and international restaurants, to appealing bars and cafés in the vicinity of Königsplatz Kassel.
The must-see museums of the city are the 18th-century Kunsthalle Fridericianum, the oldest public museum in Europe, and the famous fairy-tale Museum Brothers Grimm, who once called Kassel home.
Booking.com offers a variety of accommodation options in Kassel and across the Hessen region. Kassel Central Station offers direct routes to cities such as Frankfurt, Warburg and Eichenberg.

The Weihnachsmarkt had a very nice atmosphere with good food and drinks. The city center has all the usual shops. Grimmwelt is a very extensive museum with a nice (but expensive) restaurant.
The annoying thing about Kassel is that they close a lot of things during certain periods of time. This is the second time we went and the planetarium was closed on both occasions (March and December). The Marmorbad was also closed. In March a few of the museums were closed.
If you want to go for a swim we recommend the Auebad. Mind, though, that the slides close in the evening (Kassel tradition, I guess?).

City itself is not so remarkable, but the downtown area and the Christmas market are nice. We stopped briefly at the Grimm World Museum but didn't have time to go through it. We found some good restaurants.

I've been to Kassel three times, each time for Documenta.
I've been to Kassel three times, each time for Documenta. I love the city, though it's hard to put into words exactly why. It has a great mix of the modern and the old (though mostly modern, because of its being unfortunately bombed during WWII), and lots of greenery (parks etc). Great public transportation. Lots of cultural stuff going on.
On the other hand, I think they should improve their bicycle lanes: they're often mixed use on the sidewalk, but it's not always clear where (or if) the bicycles should be riding.

Big disappointment for us, the centre of the city is ugly and extremely dirty, I will never go there again.
The only thing which seems to be nice here is the Mountain Park Wihelmshöhe which is really beautiful!
The location is just spot on. Close to the train station and just a stroll away from the city centre.
While the premises are obviously dated, they are kept in great condition by the staff. The rooms and bathrooms (as well as all the common areas) are spot on and there is really nothing to complain about.
The rooms are generously sized. This is an upside or an aged hotel - modern ones either do not have such a large rooms or charge many times more.
The staff was friendly and attentive.
The property is located where the industrial area begins so it is reasonably close to the city centre (it would really help if public transportation in Kassel would be accessible via google maps or moovit), about 25 mins walk to Fridericianum or 10 minutes by tram no 8 from Platz der Deutsche Einheit. The rooms and linen were clean, the shared bathrooms looked clean enough but one could tell they are used by several people, with all the toiletries around.
Room was very clean. WiFi was very good. They provided bottled drinking water, which not many hotels in Germany do.
It may not be near the Wilhelmhöhe station that you should go to but tramways come often and the stop is not far from the hotel. Failed to try the very good value-for-money breakfast guests have been raving about because we had to leave earlier than when the breakfast starts.
The most outstanding feature of this property by far is its location: Just a few steps from the Königsplatz, the hotel really is right in the center of Kassel.
Other than that, everything else was very basic: A small room, single bed, simple bathroom, and no real amenities to speak of. If you're looking for a place to sleep an not much more, then teatro is fine.
We liked it so much that we decided to stay an extra night. Modern, spacious room with coffee machine and water. Very comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast and very friendly staff. The neighborhood is quiet and close to the Hercules Monument which is a must see when you visit Kassel. The tram stops next to the hotel and will take you straight to the city.
Fair hotel very conveniently located close to the train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. Perfectly located if you want to explore the Wilhelmshöhe park. There is nothing special in the rooms - it is more a business-style than a lesure hotel; however, totally fine for a one-night stay. Despite proximity to the train station, rooms are quiet.
The room was really big and comfortable - even with the baby crib open.
super clean. the entire hotel was lovely. we stayed only one night for a 'technical stop' - hopefully we will back one day to explore the area. would definitely stay in this hotel again.
Good location near the city center and the Orangerie. Friendly staff in a nicely renovated previous monastery. Good breakfast with several locally made products. Modern bathroom with shower. We really enjoyed the Silvestergala hosted by the hotel.
Very comfortable, spacious and clean. Although next to the autobahn, there's 0 noise in the room thanks to adequate windows. The staff was friendly. I recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and practic hotel near Kassel.
Hotel location is beautiful, high above the city and next door to the palace. Staff was very friendly and helpful with all our questions. Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable- and robes for bathing were really nice.
Pretty basic hotel in the middle of Kassel, but it does the trick (if you're mostly using the room to sleep in). It's centrally located, and great for viewing documenta, and they give you water daily.
Spacious room. Anna at the front desk was very prompt to answer questions and explained everything well. Hotel is close to lots of good restaurants and cafes. Walking distance to interesting sights.
Love where the property is situated, just at the bottom of the Bergpark Wilhelmshohe! We spent hours wondered there! Also in Kassel was the most significant art event, the Documenta.
Breakfast is good, and the price is also okay compared to other hotels in Kassel. Reception is only open Monday to Friday 6:30am - 10pm, Saturday-Sunday 7:30am - 6pm.
