Didn't like a thing! It was the worst place we stayed in our 3 week holiday. We stayed at another place in Coober Pedy on our way North, same price point, entirely different experience. Cannot recommend this place in any way!! There are much better places (at the same price) to stay in Coober Pedy. Do not stay here! It was cold, dirty, delapitated and owner could not be contacted. It was absolutely pot luck (& a kind neighbour) who knew where they left the key and was able to let us in.

After a 13hr drive with a 5 year old and 2 dogs, this was truly welcome respite for the 2 nights we spent there. Cool in the midst of some significant heat, tidy and clean and with all the comforts we hoped for, it was a lovely refuge from which to acclimatise and explore before we headed further north.
This property offers access to a patio, free private parking, and free Wifi. Outdoor dining is also possible at Cozy Cave Coober Pedy.

Much of the town being underground is something worth experiencing, the people were friendly and helpful, and we visited in April during cooler weather and it was pleasant. We have previously been there in the heat of summer and it's NOT so nice, dusty and hot, which is obviously why most of the town live underground.
The nearby Breakaways Conservation Park is definitely worth visiting; you can do a round trip through the Breakaways from Coober Pedy in around 90 mins including at least 30m at the various lookouts and photo vantage points. The colours from brilliant white to deep reds is amazing and the area is so different to the surrounding arid land.
The food and service at the Big Winch is superb and it's also a great vantage point to see the town and surrounding area from.
I would also recommend John's Pizza Bar in the main street and the Outback Bar and Grill attached to one of the servos serves decent grub too, as well as signature Outback Shiraz (from the Barossa Valley) for about $25/bottle that went down well.
Definitely a better town in the cooler months if you dislike the heat.

We stayed two nights, which meant one full day. Next time I would put in either 3 or 4 nights, giving 2 or 3 full days. In our one day we saw one mine, drove out to the Salt & Pepper rock formation, then had time for some drone shots above some of the mine hills out on the highway. The evening before that, we at least saw sunset from the Big Winch, which was a great introduction to the town. Another day would enable another mine visit at the very least ... since the mines are the most interesting thing about Coober Pedy.

Coober Pedy is a opal mining capital of the world. It is an interesting place to visit for a day or two to learn about its mining history, specific life in the Australian desert and to experience a true outback.

We have now stopped twice at Coober Pedy, once for lunch and fuel, and this time for an overnight sleep driving to Darwin and have no desire to ever return. Only reason to go there if you really need to stay underground or are interested in the mining history. The town has nothing to recommend itself.

Our favourite place for dining was the Big Winch 360 with a wide variety on the menu. The food was delicious too.
Our favourite places were the Breakaways which we visited twice in our three days stay. This was by far the highlight of our visit. We also visited the following exciting places:
1. Underground Serbian Ortgodox church
2. Underground Catholic Church
3. Old Timers Mine
4. Umoona Opal Mine and Museum
It is very easy to get around Coober Pedy

This is a place perfectly in tune with its surroundings and a wonderful introduction to the joys of underground living. Extremely well appointed and spacious it is a stunning contrast to the post apocalyptic landscape that characterises most of the surrounding area. I can’t imagine a better place to stay on a road trip through Central Australia.
If you go to Coober Pedy you really need to stay in a dugout. Ali's dugout is well furnished, clean, comfortable and in a great location for the sunrise. We met Ali (pronounced Alley) and she is a terrific hostess. Ensuring we had an enjoyable stay was a priority for her.
I'm going back one day and hope her home is available then.
The room was fantastic I enjoyed it and it very quiet indeed.im enjoyed staying in Coober Pedy I had the best time in the outback Australia looking for opals and going into underground mines around town as well hopefully I'll stay again soon.
Unique underground experience - only in Coober Pedy! 18 m under ground, spacious, clean, outdoor area with bbq next to own kitchen. Friendly host and explains all the sights and things to do around town
The room was underground accommodation......so it was quiet and a constant comfortable temperature. We slept well and Michael provided a varied breakfast to start our day's drive to Alice Springs.
Apartment was comfortable and well set up. Location great and good views from outside the apartment, especially at sunset.Quite the experience staying underground! Bonus it is pet friendly.
