The Lodge is a very special property and is the perfect design for 2 families, having 2 ensuite bedrooms up one end (for the parents) and twin rooms and a single room up the other end (for the kids). The hot tub in the garden is a firm favourite, especially with children, as is the beach at the bottom of the garden. For adults, the open-plan living space on the ground floor is perfect for cooking and chatting and relaxing in. In winter, there is the open fire to snuggle up in front of, and in summer there is the outdoor furniture and beanbags to relax in while watching the sunset.
Hi. My husband and I built Buchanan Lodge in 2005 as a holiday home we could take our young children to. He is a Kiwi but we live in Europe so it is very special for us to be able to visit and reconnect with nature and his roots. The young children are now large teenagers but we still all love coming to Wanaka each year and feel desperately sad when we have to leave.
Our guests just love hanging out at the lodge - enjoying the views, the beach and the lake; but if you want to go for a hiking day trip the most popular trips our guests do are to Diamond Lake (a short drive a way) or Rob Roy Glacier (in Mt Aspiring National Park) or up Mt Roy (quite a challenging climb). For more leisurely pursuits, there is the Rippon Vineyard nearby to visit, or the Lavender Farm and Puzzling World close to Wanaka town.
