There is no beach in the bay. You have to travel further afield. It would be good to know when your chosen hotel/accommodation is on a steep hill. Cat Ba has a great little market, a few good restaurants, good foot massage and friendly folks

Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill. There is good accommodation around and lots of eating place to choose from. You can also spend 8 hours cruising on the bay if you wish with lunch included. The cruise was very enjoyable. Oasis restaurant on the main street is a great place to eat, drink or have a cup of coffee. The food is great there. They have a pool table there and it's free to play. If you want to go to the beach, it's near the Flamingo Resort which is a 20 minutes walk to the left of the main road if you're facing the bay.

The full day trip on Lan ha bay with canoeing was exceptional - what a magnificent area, clear water, no rubbish and beautiful seascapes. The hike into the National park was brilliant and well worth the effort. Easy to do on your own without a tour. The two caves were well worth the visit. We had the best room on the 10th floor with city, mountain and sunset sea view. The room and bathroom were big, modern and clean. Wifi is very good. The owner of the hotel speaks really good english and is very friendly. At the reception we rented scooters to explore the island and the hotel organized a boattrip for us. Beaches are nearby (10-15 minute foot walk or 3 minutes with scooter) but you must be aware that right behind the beaches are huge resorts.

A stone throw away from several bars, cafes, restaurants and the main beaches, so scooter rental is not always necessary. The staff, especially reception were all lovely, incredibly warm and helpful with any request that was made. For the price of the hotel per night, it is truly great value for money.

To get to the center of Cat Ba Town it takes a 10 to 15 minutes walk. Everything was clean and there is enough space for all tourists. We easily rented 2 scooter at the hotel and explored the island by ourselves. We can definietly recommend this place, if you are looking for a comfortable stay not directly in the center.
