Its a small property, with a cozy feel. I like the furnishing, wood, basic & simple design. Woke up in the morning, and find pink flowers floating in the pool. I feel it is rustic and charming.

Pleasant room, comfortable bathroom, nice view on the swimming pool and vegetation. The welcome drink and massage. The support of the staff to schedule activities. We really enjoyed the time making Jamu with our lovely teacher. The strong massages were appreciated. We enjoyed dinner at the lounge terrace. And we completely loved the bike tout of surroundings on the monday morning: a great memory as the Jamu lesson. We saw beautiful fields, crossed lively villages with kids in the school courts and drank coconut water along the way.

Why did I wait so long to visit? A true surprise.
Why did I wait so long to visit? A true surprise. Not as tourist-geared as Ubud/Bali. Authentic, catering to local domestic travellers, yet with a world class heritage attraction. Friendly locals, though the touts selling souvenirs did get annoying.

I returned to see Borobodur after 31 years. It was as impressive as it was the last time. Everything around the temple is much better organized and channeled through the officials.
Still an amazing thing to do - I would recommend to read up on Borobodur before your visit to better understand all the stories behind it and its place in the Javanese and South East Asian history.

The information given by the guide is good and interesting, despite the fact that I am a Buddhist, there is much to learn from this trip. The thousand years old structure is just awesome but I must stress that anyone who wants to visit must do a little "home work" by reading up about Candi Borobudur , otherwise you might not catch some of the meaning behind the Candi and Buddhism. The Candi is fragile due to thousands of visitors and I urge everyone to visit with care and respect.

Borobudur temple is always so grand to look at and enjoyable in early morning or late afternoon. The history within the walls are just mesmerizing to look at.
After 9 am until around 3pm and on clear day, the sun gets too hot.
Having hats or umbrellas and plenty of water and sunscreen might help. But they won't stop the swarming sellers, before the entrance and after the exit, coming at you. So just be firm and polite and keep on walking if you do not want to buy anything from them. But if you do want to buy some souvenirs, you could bargain to a reasonable price.
I suggest to have a walk to the entrance stairs of the temple and don't forget to wear your comfortable walking shoes too.
This time around we took delman or horse carriage for around 5 minutes ride (less than 10 mins ride for sure) to the entrance stairs of the temple and, if not wrong, it cost around AUD20.
They also provide other services like train cars for a fee (can't remember how much), but I think it is better to hire them when you finished touring the temple and when your legs are too tired or when it's just too hot. Unless you want to explore the other facilities around (on the way to the exit) like checking out their museums and theatre.
You are not allowed to bring food or snacks into the temple complex (water is allowed). They will keep them for you to collect at the exit. So make sure you have enough food before going in.
We've never been to their restaurant/hotel in the complex, because there are plenty of choices of food just outside the complex.
For getting around outside the complex, in general, there are too many cars and motorbikes around the area, so you may want to keep walking on whatever pedestrian path available.
Cash is still preferable in the food chains and stalls outside the temple complex

Ofcourse its one of the things to see when your travels take you close to it. But it is a tourist trap. You can go in from 8.00 in the morning (not earlier anymore, like before you could go for sunrise, that is not possible anymore). You have to take a guided tour if you want to go up. The guide tells a lot about the history and is well trained. The costs are 500.000 rupiah pp. if you only walk around at the bottom it’s 350.000 rupiah. Before you leave the park you are guided through a fairly large market with touristy souvenirs.

The temple of Borobudur needs no review, it stands on his own.
New visiting rules (on 11/04/2023). Closed on monday. Reception opens on 06.30, but only for the parc. At 08.00 you can buy a ticket to go on the temple, and waiting till 09.00. Then they formed little groups of 15-20 people to go on the temple with a guide ! Visit lasts about one hour.
Sarsvati Hotel is very close to the Borobudur complex and really gorgeous. We arrived by car and were a bit early, but the lovely gentleman in charge had our rooms ready and let us check in a bit early. The lobby and rooms are grand and beautifully decorated. The pool is fabulous and I loved the central courtyard aspect of the rooms. We had to make a very early start on our checkout day and the hotel kindly agreed to let us have breakfast at 6am, even though it normally starts at 7am. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for more.
The Host was the friendliest and most welcoming person we have ever met.
He prepared a map with all good restaurants and shops/ATMs in the area and even wrote down some usefull indonesian phrases for ordering food.
He helped us with everything we needed and always tried his best to make our time in borobudur as pleasant as possible.
the room was very clean and the garden is beautiful. The breakfast was also good.
His home-grown Snake Friuts are delicious;)
I can highly recommend this place as you will instantly feel at home.
Surrounded by the rice fields and 20min walk through the village to the Borobudur Temple. Indonesian ornamented bungalows are very cosy. Good shower pressure and hot water (shower is not separated so water splashes around but this is common).
Breakfast is tasteful and lovely presented (fruits, local sweats, coffee and choice of continental or indonesian).
They offer free bikes to pedal around.
From the moment that you cross the door, Yani and Ika makes you feel like home: they offer the full hospitality of their home receiving you with cookies and tee, giving you recommendations of best places nearby to have dinner and a full map with activities to do in the surrounding.
It‘s not only about the host but also the location. The house is 10‘ walking from Borobudur temple
Jolan was welcoming us well. Perhaps the hospitality and welcoming from the staffs can be improved. They need proper office to work for their professional staffs.
Our first impression of the Villa was okay. But with the given price, there are other hotels at the area that provide better facilities.
The location to borobudur temple is only 5-10 mins drive.
The owner and his son were so friendly to me. Felt more like a homestay or a couch surfing and was very natural hanging out with them. They gave me some great info on viewing sunrise and visiting the temple. And they also offered me coffee whenever I saw them. Definitely gave me some warm feelings.
The homestay is also incredibly close to borobudur.
Hotel was surrounded by traditional farming fields and adjacent to village desa. The Borobudur was within a 20min walk.
The hotel surroundings of green fields and hills provided a feeling of peace. A bike ride to the desa villages is recommended. A visit to the Prambanan Hindu temple can be arranged as a half day.
the property is managed directly by the owner herself, thus the attention to details and excellent advise on going around Borobudur and not just around the Temple.
excellent and English speaking staff added to the hospitality of the property as well as the nature surroundings
excellent Wi-Fi connectivity
Location was perfect with a view of Borobodur temple in the distance. Roads are steeeep and the hotel will provide a 4x4 to take you to the villas. Some steps are there so careful if you have dodgy knees. It was an excellent venue complete with a private pool. Food was excellent too.
The hotel grounds were beautiful and tranquil, close to nature and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Really a home away from home. Special thanks to executive butler Pak Bimo who was always around to ask us if we needed any assistance :) Villa was well maintained and clean
A nice room design. Large swimming pool, so many vegetation makes the hotel feels like colder in hot and humid Magelang. there is also a private carnival for kids.
located just a couples km from Borobudur, Punthuk Setumbu can be reached within 6 minutes driving.
We loved the Hotel Locationas it was peaceful and quiet. The room was super clean. The breakfast was as they say in the bookings ad “exceptional breakfast”. Loved our stay and would recommend it. Thank You
Beautiful location and Bungalows! Very friendly host that is willing to do anything for you (even bring you to the Borobudur temple). Best breakfast in Indonesia so far (pineapple pancakes)
Location is walking distance to Borobudur temple, spacious for 4 person, homey interior, good taste on breakfast, communicative staffs, cute environment with cactus, very value for money
