Spacious rooms compared to standard Japanese hotels. Loved having a couch next to the tv. Big, delicious breakfast every morning. Gareth and Rika, the owners, couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating. Was thankful for the shuttle up to the lifts every morning, even though it’s a short walk.
Boasting a spacious public bath and a Western restaurant, Edel Warme Hotel is a 6-minute drive from Furano Ski Resort. Rooms include a private bathroom with bathtub.

Big mountain by Japanese standards with lots of varied terrain. Suitable for intermediates and advanced skiers, a little less so for real beginners. Not overly westernised so still has a Japanese feel. Generally very good snow.

Winter wonderland with amazing views.
Winter wonderland with amazing views. Powder snow everywhere, perfect for snowball fights and snowmen making. Local business owners are lovely to talk to. It’s a quiet place and life takes a more relaxed pace here. Stop by at Fukuzushi/ Fuku Sushi for the biggest nigiri you have ever laid your eyes on. The sushi chefs of Fuku sushi have been making sushi in Furano for at least 40 years. Say hi to chef Ohno, he’s a lovely guy and very friendly. Our hotel La Vista Furano was a destination in and of itself. Skiing at New Furano Prince Hotel’s Furano zone for the first time treated us to some of the best winter views and the best powder snow. The only downside would be that there aren’t a lot of readily available transportation options during the winter, so always book taxis or buses in advance.

DAY TRIP IS ENOUGH: If you are not skiing, I would recommend that you take a day trip bus tour from Sapporo Station. All the sites can be seen in one bus tour; best to stay the night and other nights in Sapporo.
JR FURANO STATION (TRAIN): AVOID IF YOU HAVE LUGGAGES: Be warned: no elevator or escalator in this Station, and to reach any platform from the entrance, you need to climb up one steep flight of stairs, walk through a bridgeway, and walk down another steep flight of stairs. Very very difficult if you have large luggages, and not fit!
I would recommend avoiding this station if you have luggages. Note that there is a bus which takes you from Furano to Ashikara station or even Sapporo station, and the travel time between the train trip (with at least 2 train transfers) and the more comfortable bus trip is almost the same. If dragging luggages from train to train AND up/down stairs is an issue: take the bus!

Expected deep powder but spring came early.
Expected deep powder but spring came early. We got there at the end of Feb, just missing a good snow dump, then it got warm and very springlike. Bit disappointing but we'd already had a good couple of weeks down in Honshu. Had expected powder days through March... Maybe just not this year? Can see how the field would be fun with better show.
Will try again, earlier, another year!
So we put away our boards, did the night sky watch tour (saw a deer and a fox too!) , and the yuma dog sledding experience, and walked into town. Small, farming town - not just a resort.

Cosy house with plenty of space for all our gear.
Cosy house with plenty of space for all our gear. Heaters in every room made the stay during winter great. We had a car so travelling back to Furano for dinner etc wasn't an issue. Bedding was comfortable and kitchen had all required for cooking up a meal at home. Great views of mountain ranges.
For those nervous about the shared bathrooms: we never had to wait to use the shared toilets (two for men, two for women), or the shared Japanese style bath, which is kept quite hot and perfect after a day of snowboarding. In fact, we preferred a spacious, common bath to a small private bathtub/shower. I also recommend opting for breakfast, it's very good, and at the end, the host brings you a pot of fresh herbal tea. There's also a shared ski storage room, which is very useful.
Location was great, peaceful enviroment. Didn't had the chance to try out the breakfast however, as we wanted something other than the usual hotel breakfast. But looking back, it was a regret that we skipped breakfast at the hotel since it looked pretty good :c
Hotel staff is very friendly too and understands little english which is a plus ! When we came to check in, 3 lovely cats came to greet us !
This is our second time staying at this hotel. our first stay was 4 years ago when the hotel was newly open and we had a good experience. We were not disappointed when we returned this time. The staff were as friendly and welcoming as we remembered them to be, the hotel suite was clean, and our kids throughly enjoyed their stay there. We look forward to staying at Hitohana again!
Very clean with place being really well designed...heated ski gear storage room...nice kitchen and laundry facility...people I noticed didn't like that the toilet in the room was boxed in with walls...they would probably be the same folks that would then complain that the walled in toilet took up too much space in the room...easy walking distance to the ski resort and markets...
A fantastic hostel! This is easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The facilities are excellent, and the staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. If you are a skier or snowboarder, there are plenty of places for you to store your gear, and the bedrooms have ample space for your suitcases and bags. I don't have a bad thing to say about this hostel!
My wife and I Liked our stay at Furano Fenix very much. Everything are very good during our stay. Love the deco & fittings of the room and lobby area. Bathroom & toilet are nicely layout, and bigger than most hotels in Japan. If a couple of clothes hooks can be provided at the bathroom door will be perfect. Breakfast are adequate and good.
The cleanliness of the house, the excellent washing machine which dries all my clothes at the same time. Hiro was an excellent host too! He drove us to our ski resort and more importantly helped us get around Furano after we couldn’t get our rental car. He charged us very affordable rates too! Thank you for saving our holiday!
The room is large and comfy to stay. The hotel have onsen bath both public (recommended outdoor bath are very nice) and 3 private baths no need for a reservation. The facilities are very superb. Free ice cream, ice cube after the onsen and the massage chair. Very nice to spend your day off in Furano and this hotel.
Location is close to railway station and an easy walk. Perhaps not the greatest location if you are skiing at Furano.
We were upgraded from a Hollywood Twin to a one bedroom unit for free at checkin which was nice.
We loved the free ice cream and free juice. We weren't up late enough for the free ramen.
Superb clean room equipped with all the necessary amenities that we need. The warm hospitality and friendly owners help to make our stay in Hotel Hanafuji Inn a pleasant one. I recommend tourists who want to drive and explore the beauty of Furano and Biei to stay a couple of night in this lovely inn.
The biggest room we have stayed in (for Japan.) The host was so kind to let us drop our luggage in the morning- we had to move hotels in the middle of our trip, but still wanted to go ski. The host met us there at 9:30am and let us leave it. Great proximity to the slopes.
Walking distance (5 minutes to ski slope). Very nice dry room (with boot dryer and dehumidifier). There is also a lot of space in ski storage if you need to work on your ski.
New hotel with spacious and quiet room. Very clean and modern.
Lovely, warm apartment. Had everything you needed for a skiing holiday, good location (we had a car), loved the underfloor heating. I would book it again.
