Liked a lot the feeling of living in a modern Japanese apartment with everything we needed there
I just wanted to add that the clothes refresh spray was missing... we kind of got used to find it in every hotel. But this is just a very small thing

Clean, compact room very close to the train station. Great base to explore Hakone from. Breakfast buffet was good and there are lots of food options nearby as well. Front desk was very helpful when I needed something. It is worth mentioning that the mattresses are very firm so keep that in mind.

I took a chance on Odowara since it was the closest we could get to Fuji while staying on a main shinkansen line. I saw they had the castle that we could do at least so got a traditional inn there and spent 2 days. It's a quaint city and there is a lot of good food to be had, the castle was great for an afternoon it has pretty grounds, a museum, and observatory. The city is very walkable. Aside from that there isn't much to do, most people apparently use it as a means of seeing Hakone which has more to do. We didn't see Hakone because we were avoiding taking the subways and there aren't any shinkansen that go out there so we just relaxed and enjoyed our ryokan, mostly. I think if you want a break from the major urban areas or want to see what regular life in Japan is about I would recommend Odowara.

Great little town and the perfect stop over for your forward journeys to other points of interest.
Close to lots of travel options and we took advantage of the Hakone Free Pass that we collected from Odawara Station to explore Hakone and Mt Fuji.
Some of the little alleyways were probably not suitable for children. But if you are looking for a nice little place to stop for the night, this bets the city.

Little hard to find at first, but after getting your bearings, location is excellent. After arriving via JR, exit gates and turn right. Look for doors with small supermarket, takoyaki stand, and udon restaurant. Walk past those landmarks, veer left, then right, walk along an open walkway. Look for escalators on right side, go up to 4th floor check in. Onsen was on the 10th floor and open foot bath, breakfast restaurant on 14th floor. Don Quijote was located close by for shopping. Many restaurant choice near the hotel.

Odawara castle very nice.
Odawara castle very nice. But many displays inside the castle were in Japanese so we couldn't really learn a lot. Otherwise the architecture is fabulous. Loved the beach ; we went right after a typhoon, very windy, huge waves, beautiful. The food is very nice everywhere you go. So many different types. We went into a small local restaurant and had ramen. They could,'t speak English but we just pointed out other clients' dishes to tell what we want to eat.
