Often overlooked in favour of its neighbour, Osaka, Kobe is an absolute gem of a city. It has a multitude of attractions, from the port and harbourside parks to the wonderful Nunobiki herb garden and hillside hikes on the other side of the city, to the old foreign merchants houses in Kitano Ijinkan-gai and the Motomachi and Sannomiya entertainment and shopping areas, there's a huge amount to see and do in Kobe. We gorged ourselves on amazing food, saw historic houses, enjoyed walking through nature, enjoyed food markets and took a harbourside tour. Bakery RIKI near our accommodation in Motomachi sold the most amazing pastries and Nankin-machi (Chinatown) had a wonderful, crowded, hectic atmosphere with hundreds of stalls selling cheap, absolutely delicious food. We will definitely visit Kobe again.

The availability of the shuttle bus to Sannomiya was extremely helpful and it ran frequently that we could accomplish what we wanted. The 30th floor dining area was simply wonderful. It had a beautiful view and selection of food and drinks were great.

i travel to kobe for work regularly and usually don't do much sight seeing there; it is easy to find my way around, find restaurants and there is easy access to all sorts of places to visit in the kansai area; once we stayed at the outskirts of kobe, up the mountains, with stunning views of the harbour (private accommodation, sadly gone now) but there are some other nice places to stay in and around the city

Kobe has a long history as a port town.
Kobe has a long history as a port town. If you come to Osaka or Kyoto, you should also visit Kobe. You will feel the atmosphere and characteristics of a sophisticated city that is completely different from these two. Compared to these two cities, Kobe has wider sidewalks and more walkable areas, but the city as a whole is compact and easy to get around. If you stay in Kobe, I highly recommend a hotel with a night view of the port city.

We stayed in Kobe three days during this Japan tour - it was just enough to enjoy the city (Chinatown, the covered market streets, the port area, the 'foreigner's area', and a nice small treck along mount Rokko waterfalls and gardens. Kobe is a medium size city, not overwhelming and easy to visit by foot.
It was very new, clean, nice design, bigger room!! -- compare to other hotels in Japan.
There is sitting area where there are tea and coffee service for free for guests. In the evening they also have dessert like croffle. It's kind of nice!
We asked for recommendation of a good Kobe beef restaurant, the staff answered us with good place. We really enjoyed it!
Nearby you can walk to 7-11, Lawson, Don Quixote and so many choices of food!
Great view of the city Kobe from the window in my room. It was fantastic view!
Also hotel is 5 star and very good service and facilities.
Only there is some hotel staff wasn't nice to us without reason at restaurant.
He was very nice to other Japanese guest who looks like many years customer of this hotel.
That's was only issue. All other staff were very very nice.
I like this hotel service more than Okura Tokyo.
Mixed feelings overall. It is more like a tourist spot tuned for foreigners - something like sushi served in a Chinese restaurant.
If you feel like listening blues by Armstrong (played at the property) - that would be your spot. If you would like to get to an original Japanese ryokan - you should definitely look for alternatives.
FYI - dinner was way overpriced compared to what I have seen anywhere else in Japan.
Excellent as expected. I have made it to stay at Dormy Inn whenever I am travelling to Japan with my family. Service is always good and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. The onsen is always the highlight and this time was no different.
We didn't expect the location of the hotel to be so accessible and with so much to offer and see nearby. We will definitely be staying here when we are back in Kobe.
This Hotel, located before Shinnagata Station, was very quiet, comfortable, and cost-effective. Breakfast was served both Japanese and Western food meals. In particular, it was very good to enjoy the peaceful trip in Kobe Harbor Land, Bay Area, Nunobiki Herb Gardens, Nankinmachi Chinatown etc., and to come back to the hotel and experience the Japanese meal in Munashi for dinner.
nice hotel, with japanese and western style rooms; in walking distance of Maiko Stn and Akashi bridge, easy ride to Sannomiya or Himeji (though i did choose the location for easy access to colleagues); very spacious room (as i knew from previous stays) and nice bar to spend an evening overlooking Akashi bridge and chat to colleagues
My room was spacious and well-equipped, and the bed was very comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful, and breakfasy offers a good selection of Japanese and western item + a great view! There is a public bath and sauna for guests to use, which was a real treat too. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Kobe.
Very traditional Japanese hotel with futons. The staff were lovely and there was everything we could have wished for in the room. The location is really good between Motomachi and Kobe (Hyogo) stations. Handy for train transport and subway. It's an interesting area with funky shops and restaurants.
Great location - just a short walk from Sannomiya Station. Free Happy Hour drinks and snacks from 5pm-7pm. An outdoor giant chess board for entertainment during happy hour. And, of course, comfortable rooms with some of the best smelling soap and shampoo I have come across in Japan.
Staffs are super friendly. Room is clean and cozy. There are free beverages and ice creams. Shuttle bus is convenient, and if you don't have Japanese phone card, use WhatsApp or Line to connect to the hotel. Onsen is good and easy to reserve. Use indoor onsens if you hate bugs ;p.
Clean hotel. The room I stayed was well laid out. I did not feel cramped like the other hotels I stayed in big cities in Japan that I paid more. I liked the television with a Chromecast, pajamas, and extensive amenities from drip bag coffees (two roast types!) to mouthwash.
Very near the sannomiya station connecting almost all the major railway lines…restaurants and other amenities just a few step near and one of the oldest temples in japan is just opposite the hotel…rooms are quiet big and clean and comfortable
Great variety of restaurants and shops. Friendly and attentive service by hotel staff. Covered walkway to the Portliner train. Hot water pot was very handy. Room size was very large for hotels in Japan. Portopia shuttle was very convenient.
The location is good, between Kobe Sannomiya and Shin-Kobe stations. I think this area is more attractive than near to Kobe Station. The room is quite confortable for its price. The breakfast, in Japanese style, comes with a lot of food.
The hotel was built in the middle of the shopping street, good price and delicious breakfast very traditional Japanese food with New Year’s mochi soup 🥰😋
