Shangri-La is a beautiful town, a little slice of Tibet in Yunnan. You can experience Tibetan architecture and culture without having to get a permit for Tibet proper. Unfortunately, the city is very high altitude. We got altitude sickness pretty badly and had to leave after one night. Next time I would bring some pills or allow enough time to adjust to the height before walking around.

The monastery next to the hotel is the star attraction but Shangri La old town is also great, check out the worlds largest prayer wheel and seek out the local food. Yak pizza is great.
Loads of beautiful lakes and mountains within a short drive.

Architecture is different from other places.
Architecture is different from other places. Must visit to 松赞林寺 (Songzanlin Temple) and listen to what the guide explain to you in order to know more about the city and the culture of 藏族. Hopefully we have more than so that would be able to walk around 独克宗古城.

Amazing little town in the tibetan plateau without all the fuss of Lhasa. Great collection of little charming spots to visit within the area besides amazing range of daytrips to make an incredible nature - culture trip for an alternative view of multi cultural China.

Shangri-La is plenty of mountains, animals, people, and lakes! I like to visit the mountains and life in Napa Lake. For traveling in Shangri-la you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountain. Also, the Tibetan temple is super awesome for visiting too!
The owner and staff are very friendly, hospitable and make us feel at home. The property has a very unique ambience living in cabin that is quite modern while the surrounding area is very much with nature. I highly recommend this place when you visit Shangri-la
In addition, the chef is a great cook! Try the yak meat hot pot and the property can also arrange if you would to do bbq (they prepare the ingredients so make sure to tell them your meal arrangement).
As you also love dogs, there are 2 friendly
The place has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and authentic design. Very clean. The staff there was extremely helpful and friendly, they're always glad to recommend me things nearby. Also the territory is a bit away from the old town, not too far though, but it's more quiet there due to this fact. There is an option of renting a bike and going for a ride outside the city. Vivian showed me some of the best routes on the map. Will definitely choose this place again once I'm back to Shangri-La.
Every now and then it happens that a place I visit is entirely colored by the host. This has been one such instance. Rose and her husband are wonderful, incredibly helpful people. The property is warm in more than one sense of the word. I stayed 5 nights in Lijiang and 2 nights in Shangri-La, but I should have stayed 5 nights in Shangri-La and 2 nights in Lijiang. I will be back for sure. My room was spotless. And not a sound to be heard.
The location was great, just a few steps from Ancient town and close to East gate, where I got dropped off from the bus (coming from Tiger leaping gorge - Tina's house). The staff were super friendly and help me a lot during my stay. I cannot speak Chinese so they helped me to plan and looked up how can visit different attractions in Shangri-La with great patience. The room was cosy and clean.
Beautiful place to have our first two nights at Shangri-la. Location is wonderful, right besides the old town yet just a few metres away from taxi pick up. Comfortable bed, clean toilet, hot shower, nice restaurant where we had breakfast, and lovely staff who assisted us in every of our request, including helping us to pay for the taxi fare while we figuring out how to use WeChat to pay.
Located in the old town, close to Dafo temple and easy to find foods around there but it quite far from the main road, if you have a luggage I recommend to grab a taxi to Shunshun snack and walking to the hotel using Apple Maps or you can called the owner to pick you up. The room was great and the hot water is working well, have a warmer on the bed.
Hotel owner is so helpful and friendly. She speak some English, but communicated with us so well! She sent us the locations of bike rental, coffee shops and more. She also helped with organizing trips and buses. Couldn’t recommend this place more. It was a little hard to find as the sign was covered by a bush, but she came outside looking for us
Friendly staff, welcoming you
Large room, sofa as width as the window, desk, clean and much lights that makes the room cozy. Great bed and (rain) shower.
Great breakfast with a western and Chinese food options
Overall beautiful hotel decorated in the style of Shangri-La.
Breakfast was good. Nice to have properly cold milk. Not quite as much choice as a bigger hotel. View from restaurant is wonderful. Chinese food good and reasonably priced. Very attentive service. Felt like VIP. Liked the hotel design.
The room is spacious for 4 of us. We like the view from our room. The local breakfast (noodle) is very delicious.
The hotel helps arrange a birthday cake for my daughter's birthday celebration.
Location is very close to old town
The hotel was very clean, much better than I expected, there were many beautiful flowers in the garden, the owners were very kind and invited me to have hot pot with them, it was a very pleasant experience!
I had an excellent stay at this hotel, the staff were super friendly. Especially 曹亚军 who took me on a sunrise hike and showed me around the town. Would definitely recommend and stay again 😊
