Shangri-La is a beautiful town, a little slice of Tibet in Yunnan. You can experience Tibetan architecture and culture without having to get a permit for Tibet proper. Unfortunately, the city is very high altitude. We got altitude sickness pretty badly and had to leave after one night. Next time I would bring some pills or allow enough time to adjust to the height before walking around.

Architecture is different from other places.
Architecture is different from other places. Must visit to 松赞林寺 (Songzanlin Temple) and listen to what the guide explain to you in order to know more about the city and the culture of 藏族. Hopefully we have more than so that would be able to walk around 独克宗古城.

Shangri-La is plenty of mountains, animals, people, and lakes! I like to visit the mountains and life in Napa Lake. For traveling in Shangri-la you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountain. Also, the Tibetan temple is super awesome for visiting too!
This is a lovely place to stay in Shangri-la. It is very close to the old town. The hostess, I think her name was Mary, was so kind and helpful. She was very responsive to my messages on Booking.com, prior to my arrival. She organised a driver to collect me from the airport. Her cooked breakfast that I enjoyed each morning was very tasty. She fixed my health code on my phone, which would not work properly, at first. My room was very clean and comfortable. My room was upgraded and had a lovely view across to the old town. Highly recommended.
Amazing interior decor, both in public areas and the rooms, creating an immersive Tibetan atmosphere. Cozy central courtyard with self-serve tea and snacks. Friendly staff and cat.
We stayed at the family suite, which had a large sitting area in front of the electric fireplace, where we all gathered in the evening.
Located on the edge of the old town, meaning a rather quiet area, but still quite convenient to reach the busier areas.
Hotel owner helped to book a car to pick us up from Lijiang, passing by Tiger leaping gorge.
The hostel is an original Tibetan house and run by a couple with the most romantic lovestory.
He, Korean, was backpacking through Shangri-la.
She, a local girl from one of the nearby villages, caught his eye.
They fell in love, got married and are now running the hostel conveniently located in the old town of Shangri-la. The food menu is a mixed of Western, local and Korean dishes, cooked by the lady of the house.
You are warmly welcomed and entertained by the couple and they will make your stay unforgettable!
The place has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and authentic design. Very clean. The staff there was extremely helpful and friendly, they're always glad to recommend me things nearby. Also the territory is a bit away from the old town, not too far though, but it's more quiet there due to this fact. There is an option of renting a bike and going for a ride outside the city. Vivian showed me some of the best routes on the map. Will definitely choose this place again once I'm back to Shangri-La.
The location was great, just a few steps from Ancient town and close to East gate, where I got dropped off from the bus (coming from Tiger leaping gorge - Tina's house). The staff were super friendly and help me a lot during my stay. I cannot speak Chinese so they helped me to plan and looked up how can visit different attractions in Shangri-La with great patience. The room was cosy and clean.
Beautiful place to have our first two nights at Shangri-la. Location is wonderful, right besides the old town yet just a few metres away from taxi pick up. Comfortable bed, clean toilet, hot shower, nice restaurant where we had breakfast, and lovely staff who assisted us in every of our request, including helping us to pay for the taxi fare while we figuring out how to use WeChat to pay.
The location is great.Near the old town and the Main Street. A lot of restaurant nearby. I recommend the Korean restaurant that opposite the hotel. They are good taste.
Staff are very helpful. They help us bring to luggage to the 2 floor and there is free luggage storage while we are travel to Yading.
There is heater and electrical mattress that is very helpful in the -1 Celsius cold
Located in the old town, close to Dafo temple and easy to find foods around there but it quite far from the main road, if you have a luggage I recommend to grab a taxi to Shunshun snack and walking to the hotel using Apple Maps or you can called the owner to pick you up. The room was great and the hot water is working well, have a warmer on the bed.
Hotel owner is so helpful and friendly. She speak some English, but communicated with us so well! She sent us the locations of bike rental, coffee shops and more. She also helped with organizing trips and buses. Couldn’t recommend this place more. It was a little hard to find as the sign was covered by a bush, but she came outside looking for us
The hosts are incredible, spent a lot of time with us to chat, give us advices, even organized a BBQ together! The husband of the owner is a mountain guide, can take you on 1day/7day hiking trips.
The hotel is in wood, old style house (veery nice & comfy) and the rooms are very comfortable.
The ginger tea of the host is so yummy !
The family was welcoming and accommodating. The rooms were warm, clean and had a beautiful view of the mountains. We traveled during Spring Festival so buses were not running. They helped us and arranged transport to Shangri-La. The food was good and showers were hot. Great hosts!
Friendly staff, welcoming you
Large room, sofa as width as the window, desk, clean and much lights that makes the room cozy. Great bed and (rain) shower.
Great breakfast with a western and Chinese food options
Overall beautiful hotel decorated in the style of Shangri-La.
It’s a nice hotel, huge rooms, friendly stuff. Very convenient location, free parking is closed.
