The Portage was a lovely place to stay, the views were amazing and the staff extremely helpful. We were dissapointed about only 1 restaurant being open, and therefore not a large selection to choose from. We would recommend asking in advance, if they can make up a sharing platter, as this is not on the menu, and when we asked, they mentioned we should have ordered in advance. The beautiful view from the deck totally lends itself to drinking and grazing on a delicious platter. The kids loved the kayaks and paddle boards. We would recommend booking a transfer and taking a picnic to a secluded beach - we had a wonderful time.

Portage is a fantastic location, with stunning scenery, not too far off the Queen Charlotte Track, also accessible by car for the non-walkers.
Restaurant meals at the resort were disappointing, with not many options and inflated prices.
Plenty of accommodation options, from camping at Cowshed Bay to staying in the resort. We found a cosy B&B just up the road which suited us perfectly.
The hotel is under new management and I could not fault it. The staff were welcoming, attentive and super friendly. The reception and restaurant area looked newly renovated and was modern and fresh. My meal in the restaurant was very tasty. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I slept well. And the General Manager very kindly dropped me back to the start of the QC track in the morning. Plus the sunset view from the bar is breathtaking. Don’t be put off By the bad reviews - the new management seem to be doing a fantastic job!
The Portage was a wonderful place to stay. The staff were fantastic, and the view was amazing, and the beds were really comfortable. The pool was wonderful, and the paddle boards and kayaks kept the kids entertained
